Thinking about things down the road. If Trump’s efforts to close the southern border continue to be successful, it will have several effects on Mexico and South America. 1) It eliminates a cartel revenue stream, and 2) It puts a cap on remittances from America to foreign countries, and 3) It will likely destabilize economies in source countries -- if there were work there, why would they come here?
Curious about how things will work out a year from now, again assuming a border shutdown can be made permanent.
It would help a lot if Congress would pass a bill mandating that all employers use the E-Verify system on all current and future employees. No exceptions. Then add heavy fines for failure to comply.
If enough pressure rises from the disaffected in a country, a change will occur in that country. For far too long we’ve served as the pressure-relief valve.
There’s that viral clip of the woman Ukrainian ambassador putting her head in her hands during the fiasco yesterday. The best thing she could have done would have been to collapse on the floor pretending a medical emergency, which would have stopped the whole mess from continuing.
I like most of what Trump does, though I admit I cringe a bit at times at how he presents. I am not happy about what I hear about his position on this war. We did not tell Hussein that he could keep parts of Kuwait if he stopped where he was. I was disappointed to hear he wanted to let Russia keep parts of Ukraine that he invaded. I cannot think of a worse message to send to someone like Putin. I hope I am misinformed, but I am concerned. I did not expect this path.
I think Trump has two objectives; 1) Not letting this escalate into a larger/nuclear conflict, and 2) Not directly involving the US military. There’s no good outcome here and regardless of what actually happens, I don’t think anyone has any idea of what it will lead to in five years.
Tread pic: Hmmmmm. Not buying it.
Happy weekend, GN!

Happy Saturday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning/afternoon Sven, and Mac!
I picked up a cold earlier this week, and I’m still not back to full productivity, but I’m trying.
Sven -- I hope Mrs. Sven is recuperating from last week.
