Shopping. The clothes dryer went out last week and after 30+ years of pretty reliable service and a few repairs on the heating and electrical side, we decided to just go get a new one. Since we were there -- Lowe’s -- decided to pick up a new washer too. Being delivered tomorrow.
We have bought them from Lowes and Home Depot. We were happy with both. We replaced ours with LG and they have been good. I hope you are happy with yours.
So last year, my brother came out for Christmas from Arizona. That was when 1) the refrigerator went out necessitating all types of plan changes, and 2) the septic system failed. Things had been pretty much OK since then until last week when a friend came out for a visit, also from AZ and 1) the dryer fails, and 2) me and Mrs Sven both get norovirus.
Lesson: When folks flee CA for AZ, they can come back to CA for visits, but those being visited will be hosed.
It’s nice when appliances/tools hold up and do what they are supposed to do for many years. Could I have done some troubleshooting and repaired our dryer? Yes. Did I want to? No. We’ve skimped and saved for many years and financially are in a good place, so why not treat ourselves and get something new. Will it last as long as the original Sears unit? Probably not, but then again we won’t need them to last 30 years.
Good morning, GN.

We went with Maytag -- had good reviews, reasonable prices, and no “extra” electronics. It’s not like we a big household.

Happy Friday, Gerbil Nation!
Good afternoon, Sven, and Mac!
We replaced our Maytag washer with a Speed Queen a number of years ago. Our Maytag dryer that is coming up on 40 years is still going strong.
