It’s nice -- for a change -- to feel like we’ve got some bad actors in a difficult position. However, given we have a multi-tiered legal system with JimCo at the bottom of the heap, I’m trying to resist feeling gleeful. (As I remember our last encounter with “a very serious legal matter”, when we ultimately got boned hard despite a “smoking gun” document.)

Having had previous JimCo-related dealings with the legal system (when we were also the innocent, aggrieved party), I don’t have much faith in anything remotely resembling justice.
My first approximation: The paralegal gets the blame (and maybe fired); Mr. Lawbaw -- and the firm he manages -- walk away unscathed except for some mild embarrassment.
Fatwa: You crack me up. Your take on this lawyer story is priceless.
I have experienced this kind of thing myself. I won’t go into detail except to say that it began with a room mate dispute which escalated without us being able to resolve it privately. Then, the lawyer in question went after not only our assets (as if we actually had any : ) but also anyone with a similar name or handle. I remember spending a couple of days on the phone with ascap and the like just letting them know they may be getting unfounded claims on their intellectual property from some over zealous attorney.
My take on all that is that lawyers looking for damages will just fling as much mud as possible to see if any of it sticks. They don’t care if they’re attacking uninvolved parties, because they might get lucky and get some payment and still have plausible deniability if an uninvolved party actually takes notice. They can claim it was reasonable for them to assume two similarly named parties are related and not be accused of fraud.
On another note:
So, in my job, I need supplies from the post office. I can’t get anyone to get them even though they go right by the post office on their way back from their various duties in order to punch out and end their shifts. So I make a little postal run once or twice a week in the late morning. There’s no punch line there. That’s it. If I have the mail bags and tubs, then I can avoid the split shift and do all my work in one go.
Looking at the numbers. Ventura County has around 900,000 people living in it. As of tonight, we have 451 cases of the Chinese Flu, 24 people hospitalized, and a total of 14 people having died since this whole thing started 4 or so weeks ago. In March, over 400,000 people were employed -- how many are still working is anyone’s guess.
I’m not seeing much justification for shutting our county down. New York and New Jersey have a problem, but they aren’t the rest of America.
I can’t imagine what the summer is going to look like, but whatever form it takes it isn’t going to be good.
Orange County has 3,179,950 people. We have 1753 cases of Winnie teh Flu, 162 hospitalized, and 34 deaths.
0.050% of the population of Ventura County has the Chinese Lung Rot.
0.055% of the population of Orange County has the Tu Wong Flu.
1,679,600 were employed at the end of February. How many today? Far fewer.
While millions are laid off, Fredo Cuomo and George Stephanopoulous both wander the streets of the Hamptons while under quarantine for actually having COVID-19.
