Saturday

new_words
I recall learning a few words on Teh Wheel, like “chocolate starfish” and “pink sock”. I could have missed that and not felt the loss.

Heh.

Good morning, GN!

Fatwa Arbuckle: Misanthropologist

Happy Caturday, GN!

Hi, Sven!

Wow…access available sans Tor two days in a row; will wonders never cease?

Mac --

I recall when I was a kid paging through the then-ubiquitous “Reader’s Digest” in waiting rooms; always liked the “Toward More Picturesque Speech” feature. Teh way I see it, speech has simply become moar, um, colorful since my yout’. 😉

======================

I find it a bit disturbing that more than one member of my birth family seem to be finding excuses for the current “American Intifada”; apparently, they’re severely learning impaired.

Oh, well…they’re grown people and you can’t fix stupid. (As the “Senior Arbuckle” since Dad’s and his sisters’ deaths, it’s sad to see such willful blindness…but as LambiePieK is fond of saying, “people are entitled to go to Hell in their own way”.)

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sven, Fatwa. Salutations! We’re just getting ready to go to sleep. I trust you both have Saturday plans that are equally exciting?

We’re doing great, thank you, Fatwa. Dv8 just awakened me (from my restful slumber upon the couch) to go to bed. This reminds me of the hospital where they’re famous for awakening patients to give them sleeping pills.

Hope you both rest well.

Today’s my “slug day” where I don’t bother to shower or dress (except for a ratty t-shirt and rather short shorts; gonna be almost 90ºF here today).

Woe betide anyone who knocks on our door; they will be met with an old, scary-looking apparition.

Booga, booga, booga!

We, alas, aren’t “on” the wheel today so I’m using my phone. I wanted to try to post a video that I think will give Gentle Mac a smile today. It’s from a an old LDS group of musicians that we listened to a lot while I was growing up.

When I mess it up I’d be grateful if you’d fix it for me, Fatwa. Thanks!

Goodnight. Friends.

sigh

You told me what to put on the front of that string to make the video post once but I didn’t write it down. I’m sorry, Fatwa. If you’d just yeet that thing up there for me I’d appreciate it. Nite nite.

Your linky worked fine for me. While that’s not my “thing” musically, the performance was great.

(If you wish to embed YT videos here, you simply change “https” to “httpv”. I see Mac appears to be “on it”.)

Sorry your connection’s being troublesome today.

This puts me in mind of Genre of “Cowboy music.” Like Ghost Riders, and such. But I think the origin of this one wasn’t the American West, although I could be wrong.

Here’s one my folks had (featuring a very young John Denver):

Happy Curmudgeon Caturday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven, Fatwa, Plaguie!, and Mac!

I remember hearing “yeet” from the chicano gangbangers back in 2006. It really didn’t mean anything then -- just a sound to make for any occasion that others didn’t understand.

Fatwa -- heh! Songs like those could never be made today, more’s the pity.

Plaguie -- rest well. Thanks for the musical offering.

Circling back -- hello Miss Harper, Dv8, Paddy, Mac, and Fatwa! That’s like about everybody!

The starfish reference brought to mind a song by Monster Magnet called Dig that Hole. Modesty prevents me from linking to it.

The 3D’s -- not bad at all.

The Mitchell Trio -- OK, that’s funny.

Restaurants are slowly reopening out here, although CA is still under the absurd mask and social distancing rules, so me and Mrs Sven went to lunch today. Good to get out.

I should be doing stuff, like work, but took time out to watch Hitchcock’s 1944 film Lifeboat. I’d never seen it before, but found it entertaining. With what is to mind, a dearth of newer movies worth watching, I’m slipping back to more of the classics. Any suggestions?

Thanks! I was thinking of that movie and thinking it was Lifeboat.

One Viking movie that I remember from long ago was The Long Ships with Richard Widmark -- quite good. And I agree that Emperor of the North is a great movie.

Thanks, Mac. There’s some weirdness around the 1 minute mark.

Did you ever watch The Vikings on the History Channel? I think you’d enjoy that series, especially the first couple of seasons.

I just watched Kirk Douglas and John Wayne in the War Wagon. I seem to recall seeing that as a kid in the theater.
