Today CA is lifting most of its covid restrictions, allowing us to rejoin the rest of the nation. I’m sure there will be much fanfare from govt officials thanking us for working together and our sacrifices through these difficult and unprecedented times, along with how exceptional we all are. I’m sure too that there will ominous warnings about how this could happen again and we all must be vigilant and ready for the next time. What a crock.
Hottest day of this heat wave happens today. First “local” fire about 30 miles north got put down quickly yesterday -- more to come.
Or “there will be much fanfare from govt officials” expecting you to thank them for their wisdom and leadership in placing that boot on your neck so swiftly and decisively.
Good morning, Sir. I wish you the best with the fires.
Good morning, Gerbil Nation.
Good morning, Sven and Mac.
Yesterday, just before dinner, we learned that our dear friend, Cindi, had passed away, unexpectedly. We rushed over to their home to be with the family. Her husband, Pete, was in Oregon for the funeral of his sister and was desperately trying to get home. His flight was delayed and he ended up stuck in San Jose until this morning. We’re not sure when he’ll get home.
We met Pete and Cindi 37 years ago, through mutual friends. It turns out she was dating someone at the small college in Indiana that I attended and we probably ran into each other at parties. Our kids grew up together and when they were younger, Mrs. Paddy took care of them. When she’d take them all out, people thought she had two sets of fraternal twins. Cindi was Mrs. Paddy’s best friend. They were going to grow old together. Now all we can think about are all the things we had planned that will never happen and the hole she has left in our hearts.
Sorry for the downer post first thing in the morning.
I’m grateful to have a community of friends like all of you.
I never know what to say at such times. I’ve lost people to freak accidents, illness, and even suicide over the years, so I understand what it feels like. I guess this is where faith comes in. We have faith that we will be able to see our loved ones again. I guess it doesn’t help much in the moment when we’re missing them in our lives, but it does give us comfort in the long run.
Before I had my own faith, I think I used to envy that about those who did. Now, I feel like my Dad, and others are present in my life, waiting for me on the other side of the veil. Sometimes it feels like they are reaching across to tell me things, give me advice, warn me about things, or even make me laugh.
I especially feel my Dad joking with me all the time.
Thanks, dv8. I don’t know what to say at times like this, either. On the giving end, everything seems like so many platitudes, but on the receiving end, the words themselves don’t matter -- it’s the love behind them that does. That love transcends the words themselves and is a source of comfort.
My faith helps me know that I will indeed be reunited with my friends and loved ones.
Combat Traps are the best. Don’t bother with the exterminator, buy a pack, put a couple in each room, a few in the garage, they’ll be gone in about a day. Very low effort.
The sonic repellers will be counter productive against the Combat brand bait.
Combat works by making the roaches toxic to other roaches. Which kills all the ones you don’t see. That’s why they are so effective. They even worked great for us in Portland where we got 100″ of rain per year. Hence had many roaches in that climate.
Repellers and glue traps and roach motels all have the same problem in that they only kill or deter the ones you can see.
Sorry about your roach problem, Sven. Disgusting little creatures.
Boric acid powder works well with roaches. It’s relatively non-toxic, so you don’t have to worry about using it around dishes, food, etc.
Roaches, like democrats, don’t like the light.By the time you see a few it usually means there are so many they are desperate for food. As dv8 said, killing the ones you see does no good as there are plenty more to replace them. Getting the main nest will do it, and the next generation that may hatch from eggs laid before the roaches are killed.
Found out in the restaurant business they can come into the cleanest places in a box or crate. In older buildings in cities they are so established you can never really be free of them, they will come back through the inner walls, electrical, or plumbing passages. You just keep killing them before they can get too numerous.
Yup. Like in NYC. Time to rewatch “Joe’s Apartment.”
Fun Fact: “Joes Apartment” was the first DVD I ever bought. Second was “Office Space,” Which, you know, now that I think of it, has a similar feel to it. After that, we started grabbing cinematic feeds off encrypted sattelites and burning them to compressed DivX Cds. Shortly after that, you could get movie rips everywhere, and burn them to CD or DVD if you wanted to. But by then they started appearing on those foreign TV/Movie sites so you didn’t even have to mess with downloading, ripping, compressing, burning, etc.
Once HTML5 came along, you didn’t even need flash anymore to watch such things online.
Now that the lab release theory has gone mainstream, it makes me wonder if the powers that be have decided to let that cat out of the bag to pull any attention away from a deliberate release/act of war by our Chinese friends.
Good morning, GN!

And just where is Fatwa?

Hello, Mac -- and Newsom will use today as a fundraising vehicle to prevent his recall.
Good morning, Gerbil Nation.

I am so sorry, my friend. What a terrible situation. I hope you can find peace and comfort, and help the family through the very hard days ahead.
Thank you, Mac.
My prayers for comfort and strength for her family and yours as well.
Thanks, Sven. This is going to be a long journey.

Well this is interesting, but not in a good way. We seem to be having a cockroach infestation.
Combat Traps are the best. Don’t bother with the exterminator, buy a pack, put a couple in each room, a few in the garage, they’ll be gone in about a day. Very low effort.
Thanks, Dv8 -- I just ordered some along with a pack of sonic repellers which have very mixed reviews as to effectiveness.
This has never been a problem for us. We’d see the random roach a few times throughout the year, but now they’ve shown up in every room of the house.
The sonic repellers will be counter productive against the Combat brand bait.

Same goes for rodents; you can only get rid of them by killing the ones you can’t see. Cumiden type poison does that for rats.

Word….
Good advice all the way around. Thanks.

Just a little trip down memory lane.
Well you boys ain’t filling me with optimism.
I have the feeling that it’s going to be roach hunting for the next couple of weeks. Yeah.
Now that the lab release theory has gone mainstream, it makes me wonder if the powers that be have decided to let that cat out of the bag to pull any attention away from a deliberate release/act of war by our Chinese friends.
Joe Biden loves roaches jumping on his lap.
