Fatwa Arbuckle: Misanthropologist

Happy Copycat Wedensday, Wheelizens!

(Nice one, Mac.)

dv8 (and Harper!!1!) --

Enjoy your new microwave!

(I didn’t own one until the late ’90 and had no idea I’d use it as much as I did / do.)

Sven --

Really stupid of your truck dealer to piss-off a 30-year customer and lose a sale over $1,200 in bullshit “fees”. WTF is wrong with people?

It just pissed me off and after a few minutes of talking reasonably, I was off to the races.

I suspect you’re more than a little intimidating when righteously annoyed; hope at least one employee soiled their pantaloons. 👿

The Microwave is kind of a retro looking one, on the small side only 700 watts. It looks like something they had in the 1950s--if they had microwave ovens back then. It’s red, which is our “accent” color in the kitchen.

We got pretty used to being without one, but it’s nice to have one again.

I briefly toyed with the idea of installing it INSIDE the old broken microwave. Which would be funny. But I think I’m going to remove it and install a regular range hood. Maybe. I still haven’t decided.

Also, I didn’t know Escher had wiener dogs! Learn something new every day.

Hi, Mac!

Hope your roofing project goes smoothly.

Heh!

Hopefully, you won’t need to.

OTOH, you could start by treating them as if you think they’re lazy morons who don’t know what they’re doing. (Dedicated professionals in any field of endeavor appreciate that…as I’m sure you know from your own work experience.)

And be sure to repeatedly complain about the debris -- especially nails -- and ask them every thirty minutes if they’re going to do a thorough clean-up.

Also, you can regularly express concern about your HVAC equipment on the roof and / or ground being damaged.

And if you have any shrubbery next to the house, you can make a big show of picking up pieces of debris from it -- preferably while having zero situational awareness of what’s going on up on the roof and that stuff might fall on you.

Those are the basics right there… 😉

Additionally, don’t offer them cold drinks, ice, use of your bathroom, etc. at any point; they’ll see those things as signs of weakness.

I’m sure your offer of shade and teh other stuff is greatly appreciated -- especially if it’s hot there today.

I know my cow-workers welcome simple courtesies like that from homeowners as they’re somewhat rare -- particularly when working on condos -- around SoCal.

Happy Wednesday, GN.

Good luck on the roofing project, Mac -- hope it all goes smoothly. Good advice, Fatwa, on how to treat those dirty roofers.

Dv8: I kind of like the idea of microwave inside of a microwave, but it would probably make more problems than the esthetic is worth.

We’ll probably just use it as a bread box until we decide to replace it with a hood or another builtin microwave.

And making it sound like a good thing: Flash forward to June 21, 2021 and the looming deadline, when Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Monday, “California is planning rent forgiveness on a scale never seen before in the United States.”

At least the landlords will get paid…with money from taxpayers from places like Georgia, Texas, and Arizona.

I’ve been listening to the Michael Savage podcast lately while at work. I decided to listen to the the old ones starting with the first recorded one which is about 3 years old. Once of the themes that constantly comes up is how everyone always tells him to leave California/Sanfran and move to a red state, but he’s too stubborn to do that, and plus he can afford the miserable high taxes.

He does have a place in Florida but he says he never goes there so he’s thinking he’ll sell it.

By the way, I’m not into the onset of Covid yet in the Savage Podcast. It’ll be interesting to see his take on that as it develops.

I periodically go up and listen to the new ones. I probably have a couple of weeks worth of those saved up.

Happy Wednesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, Mac, dv8 (and Harper!), and Sven!

If we had the cat scan this morning, can we expect the lab report tomorrow?

Sven -- how annoying to have the dealer pull that carp at the last minute.

Teh Younger got in a minor fender-bender last week (minus any actually bent fenders, no air bags deployed) and was told yesterday that his 2008 vehicle was totaled. It appears the pre-tensioning seatbelt system had to be replaced and that put it over the top. Now he’s on the hunt for a good used vehicle. We found two candidates yesterday and he put in inquiries with the dealers. We’ll see how that goes.

Mac -- good luck with your roofing. No matter what Fatwa says, avoid the temptation to get up on the roof to see how they are doing.

dv8 -- I’m in favor of replacing your old microwave/vent hood combination with a standard vent hood, but that’s just me.

Fatwa -- those are some great pointers. When I was painting houses, homeowners were often kind enough to point out drips on their walkways, driveways, etc. -- usually of a different color than any we were using.

is THAT what those steps are for!!!!! I kind of wondered why we had them, i.e. why our garrage was not on the same level as the rest of the house.

I understand that if you install those microwave range hoods correctly, and also make sure the fans are powerful enough, they can be okay. We do have an external vent, but in our broken microwave, they didn’t install the fan part correctly, so it sucks from the front and the bottom and you have to block off the front vents or else you get grease all over the front of the microwave.

I caught some of Biden’s address on “gun violence.” In terms of style, the most charitable way to describe him is feeble; in terms of content, SOS. He’s going after FFLs and pretty much blamed gun stores selling illegally as the cause of the spike in crime. Much fact checking will be needed to see how many lies he told, but the usual laundry list of demands from the gun control crowd is what they are up to.

I’m in a funk over last night. I really did burn bridges with that dealership and I am disappointed in myself over losing my temper. I really should have just gotten up and walked away.

I don’t blame you for being angry when the dealership called you in on false pretenses. At that point they were telling you that they had no integrity and no respect for you as a customer, let alone a long-time customer.

One thing for sure, gun and ammunition sales aren’t going to drop this year.

I miss having a weapon. I sold my glock a while back when I was … well, let’s just say guns don’t mix well with depression. But I tend to overreact to things and clearly rather than selling my handgun, I could have put a lock on it and given the key to Plaguie. That would have made much more sense AND we’d have a valuable weapon now. Those things are very expensive these days. I carried it for almost 10 years, and I always felt safer because of it.

Sorry about the Truck situation, Sven. I’ve only ever bought one car new and one a couple of years old from a dealership. Everything else has been a private sale.

And as you know, my last experience was a nightmare wherein I had the title to the wrong car.
