I followed a link to the Freedom Phone website over the weekend; seems a little short (read: completely lacking) on specs, which is a concern for me. A little more casual sleuthing revealed it may be a rebranded phone from CCP-Land, which is another personal concern re spyware baked-in to the hardware.
Since I don’t use my phone for much more than texts, GPS, occasional benign searches when not at home and -- of course -- making calls, I don’t worry inordinately about security. (I also have a grand total of two third-party apps on it.)
I’d like to see more secure smartphones; there certainly seems to be a growing market for them, given increasing gummint goonery. Hopefully, what remains of our free-market will start to fill that need.
I hope so. I will let all y’all know about my pineOS research. But basically…. any affordable phone is going to be made in China or maybe India. I would be more in favor of a patch or hack that adds unbiased app stores to Android.
As far as privacy goes, you can look into “ungoogled” phones.
I believe it may be possible to add an app store to Android. You can also install apps directly from download like in windows, but you do lose some functionality unless you root your phone.
My last two phones were rooted. This one isn’t (I’m at work now)
Agree on the Freedom Phone -- a little more information needed and not too interested in the first model to roll off the assembly line. I’m becoming skeptical of Conservative-based marketing.
I wonder if there are super-vaxers out there; those that are addicted to getting the covid vaccine and since it’s still free, that go out and get shots every couple of weeks.
Happy Monday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!
I read yet another report of “spiking” COVID-19 numbers this morning -- this time in the OC. According to the data, we’ve gone from 0.8 cases per 100,000 population to 2.6 cases per 100,000. That translates from a 7-day floating average of 2.6 cases per day to 8.45 cases per day. Yes, that’s a three-fold increase, but the numbers are still low. Factor in the reality that the COVID PCR test is being run at too many cycles to separate virus fragments from active, infectious cases, and we’re left with just another government scare campaign.
Yup. This and other monkey business is implemented.
Also masking is becoming a fashion trend. If you show eyes only, the imagination improves the quality of the rest of the face. I’ve seen this first hand. Pretty eyes give way to an ugly face when the mask is removed.
That’s kind of interesting though. The face is more variable from the nose on down.
The only teevee show that I enjoyed lately was an FX-Australian import called Mr. Inbetween about an Aussie hitman who begins to question what he is doing with his life. The Aussie accents have always made it a little difficult to follow the plot, but the characters, acting, plot, and overall mood made it worthwhile.
Sadly, after only three seasons, they decided to wrap it up. The last episode aired last week with Ray, the hitman, tossing his criminal past and becoming a cabbie. In the final scene, he picks up a couple of seedy guys from outside a bar in the middle of a major storm. These guys are up to no good, at least planning to rob Ray, as they drive further and further into the darkness.
At one point, the guy riding up front says something and Ray stops the cab and looks at him. What I hear the guy say is “I saw my daddy tonight” and I’m completely baffled as to the significance of that line and it’s about the last line before the screen goes black.
I watch, rewind, strain my hearing. Repeat, repeat, repeat…maybe 15 times. I call in Mrs Sven. Reduce bass, increase bass, reduce speech clarity, increase speech clarity, headphones on, headphones off, search the intertubes. No luck and closed captioning isn’t an option in this case. Finally Mrs Sven hits on it: “Someone could die out there tonight” and it all makes sense.
Po’ Displaced Puppeh Monday salutations, GN!
It’s the start of another exciting week; woooo!

He should have called it “MyPhone.”
I wonder if there are super-vaxers out there; those that are addicted to getting the covid vaccine and since it’s still free, that go out and get shots every couple of weeks.
“Moderna, Pfizer, J&J…collect them all!”
This week’s episode of extreme addictions!!

Hi, Paddy.
When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Masks, lockdowns, get vaccinated or else.

Three seasons, all worth watching.
I hate when they cancel my favorite shows. I really enjoyed Lillehammer. It ended abruptly after 3 seasons.
My favorite Anime “Bleach” ended abruptly after 366 episodes. But I hear they are planning to finish it now. No signs of that yet.
It would be great if we could just buy mainstream products and not get censorship, Spyware, and Crapware.
