It’s a glum weather day here in Larryville, mostly due to very outlying effects of Ida. Fortunately, we’re only in for thunderstorms and mild wind gusts; pretty normal late summer weather ’round these parts.
I’ve been reading this book, God Through Binoculars by Danusha Goska, for the past several months. I hope to finish it this week and then re-read it. It’s the most haunting and interesting book I’ve come across lately, and yet I can’t tell you what it’s about beyond it being a woman’s spiritual journey and reflections on God and religion.
In one chapter, she contrasts pagan religions and Islam prostrate prayer practices with Christian prayer. She starts this paragraph with this question: What kind of god would want never to see a human face?
“The face, the anatomical feature most associated with emotion, thought, vision, awareness, communication, intimacy, and expressiveness, the brow, the eyes, the lips, the nostrils, the mouth – the features we monitor to recognize, empathize with, heal, love, and know one another – is lowered to the very ground. The face, the one true map of human individuality, our unique anatomical feature, is denigrated as low as it can go. In Muslim prayer, and where women wear the veil, the face is eradicated.”
In today’s America where we are forced through law, mandate, or social pressure to mask up and hide our faces in the name of questionable science and govt overreach, that paragraph succinctly sums up what we are losing by obeying.
Because I’m a glutton for punishment I’m waiting to hear Biden speak about the greatest surrender and retreat in American history, but they must be having a hard time waking him up from his nap as he’s late. Or the drugs aren’t kicking in as quickly as usual.
He’s on -- c***sucker praising this evacuation as the greatest thing ever and something only America could do.
Blaming the Afghans.
He’s angry and alert Joe this afternoon and blaming everybody else.
He’s also saying, more or less, that everything went according to plan.
I can hear Mrs Sven from the other room, must be watching the same thing, saying “Oh, f**k you”
Blaming Trump now.
He did the right thing…the only thing. He’s so brave. And everything he did was right.
The lines are drawn -- do we believe Biden or what we watched and know? It’s his usual false choice: do we stay in Afghanistan forever or do we leave and if we leave this is the best it could have been.
He’s an absolute and total asshole, but whatever drugs they got him on are working. Piss on him.
He takes credit for planning and executing the evacuation, but blames Pres. Trump for any failures. He made the decisions, but Trump’s agreement with the Tahl-e-ban prevented him from doing things the right way. Also, Beau. What a frickin’ wanker.
