I actually had to go out and procure a cup of coffee to expel it forcefully all over my tablet in the proscribed manner as that was so wickedly perfect, Fatwa!
Sometimes the proprieties simply must be observed.
I’ve been up to mischief this night. When David went back to work after his dinner at 3am I found myself oddly awake; so, I decided to make this really simple recipe I’d been saving as a surprise for him. Of course, it didn’t stay quite as simple once I got started…
For the fruit I had some canned dark cherries with sugar. I lightly drained the cherries, added about 1 tsp Chinese five spice, about 1/2 tsp extra cinnamon, a splash of lemon juice, around 1 generous tsp real vanilla and let them sit and get aquainted for awhile. Then I added around a Tablespoon of cornstarch and simmered it in a small sauce pan until it was almost too gooey. A good sized dash of sweet vermouth to deglaze the pan evened out the flavoures beautifully.
I folded that into the cream cheese filling. We’ll see if it’s any good when David gets home.
Ok, it came out well but the filling is almost too rich. I certainly couldn’t make a pie out of it. The flavour is delicious but it’s like eating a cherry cordial. Small servings are called for.
Outlook for today’s not looking bad at this time. But it’s still early in L.A…
I used to love me a big glass of cold whole milk with sweets -- especially chocolatey ones. But somewhere in my mid-twenties, I went off milk as a beverage. Don’t know why; I simply -- and rather suddenly -- found it very unappealing.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What’s doing in your little corner of the Gerbil Nation?
Happy Wednesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, Harper!, dv8, and Mac!
My, my, y’all have been a chatty bunch of Gerbils this morning! That’s nice to see!
Harper -- (I know you’ve gone to sleep, but I’ll leave this for you to read later) Mrs. Paddy and I used to make something very similar when we had to bring in some pastry to work. We’d cut it into wedges, following those helpful perforations on the canned dough, and serve it with fresh strawberries. Back in the day I could eat one. Today I might be able to manage one-half, with plenty of black coffee, but I’m sure I’d regret it.
In re your book project -- will you write it in the style of bad Hemmingway?
Good afternoon, GN. Managed not to sleep until dark. Even though I’m comfortable with the graveyard shift, it is a bit depressing waking up in the dark. So If I can see a few hours of daylight, I’m okay.
Well, I’m okay, if I supplement my vitamin D, anyway.
You boys and girls have been busy today -- and all seem to be doing well. Very cool. Walt Whitman has been on mind lately:
TO The States, or any one of them, or any city of
The States, Resist much, obey little,
Once unquestioning obedience, once fully enslaved,
Once fully enslaved, no nation, state, city, of this
earth, ever afterward resumes its liberty
G’day, GN!
The hero we got:
Harper’s cake was a lot better than Urinal Cake. Well… I mean, I don’t know know for sure. Call it an educated guess.
Oh!
Oh!!

Bravo, good sir!!
*SCHA-NORT!!*
I am enormously flattered you went to such lengths, madam.
(I RW LOL’d; hope your tablet wasn’t impaired.)
Oopsie…mustn’t forget the traditional saluation: “Harper!!1!”.
I’m thinking of writing a book someday and using the title, “The Evil Sun Also Rises”.
Approved!
Unsolicited idea for title of sequel: “The Bent Wand”.
Perfect
Oooh…I’m practically Mary Freakin’ Poppins.
Mornin’, Mac!
Good morning, Gentle Mac! It’s a treat to see you, Sir!!
It is a treat to see you, Gentle Lady.

PS: It was good!!!!!
After reading all that, I envisioned you preparing the entire dish with raised pinkies. 🙂
Sounds like it was a bit of a fuss; glad to read it was yummy. (And -- hopefully -- worth all of the extra work.)
I was playing and making it up as I went along. It was fun.
I had a real helping of it this afternoon when I woke up. (I ate a protein bar first : )
Ok, it came out well but the filling is almost too rich. I certainly couldn’t make a pie out of it. The flavour is delicious but it’s like eating a cherry cordial. Small servings are called for.
I believe that’s a feature, not a bug. 😉
It is if one also has a big glass of milk.
What’s your day looking like today, Fatwa?

Sleeping, my friend. I’m about to snuggle down into bed for a well earned crash.
I do hope your day goes smoothly. You’re about due for a break from teh Kalifornia Krazeez.
Nite-nite, All.
Pleasant dreams.
Yes. I knew there was some mischief going on when harper texted me to see if we had some powdered sugar.
I’d have been more concerned if she’d texted to enquire about current stocks of C-4.
Rest well, dv8.
Silly Fatwa, a proper lady always has that organized and sorted out.
Of course; what was I thinking?
Criminy…am I going all Biden-y?
Heaven forfend…
(((poof)))
😉
Big Route is over for the night. Time to go to sleep.

Hey, Paddy!

This is so very wrong:
Agreed.
But I LOL’d anyway.
There’s a whole Reddit for these. dark humor comics, I think it’s called.
