I am still reading the Divine Comedy -- up to Canto 21 now, and Virgil and Dante are still in hell. They travel from one circle and pit to another, bear witness to the horrific tortures that the souls are subjected to, speak with some of the damned -- some of whom are Dante’s contemporaries -- and move on to the next. The question that I have is this: what is the purpose of damnation? These are all sinners of one form or another, and each circle of hell and punishment is designated for a particular sin, but their damnation is eternal and that’s a pretty long time. To what end? Is it a lesson to the living, a warning? If you are a flatterer then it’s the Eighth Circle for you and you’ll struggle in a pool of shit forever?
In hell, redemption isn’t possible -- no rehabilitation, just punishment and to what end? I don’t know if Dante has an answer.
Mrs Sven came across this opera singer/voice coach and we listened to her critique of Queensryche’s Eyes of a Stranger. Quite interesting and she’s so darn perky. It might not be your cup of tea, musically, but even if you aren’t a fan of the band her take on Tate’s voice is entertaining and she’s go plenty of other songs and singing tips on her youtube channel.
I loved listening to her, thank you for sharing this. The music is outside my appreciation but I loved her sensitivity and explanation of the quality of his voice and talent.
There was one thing that bothered me in listening to her. Maybe the better educated here (that would be all of you) can help me with your feelings about it. She was great at expressing the details and qualities of her expertise, but her general vocabulary seemed shallow and limiting. One of the things I find annoying listening to many young people, even educated ones, is lack of vocabulary to express themselves. They lack the richness and depth of expressive words to communicate. They fall back on profane or overused terms to such an extent I glaze over and lose focus. The use of a few four letter words for all kinds of words is particularly telling. I expect it from street bums but not from degreed and/or professional people.
She was great when describing technical aspects but it seemed like time and again she searched for the right word or expression to convey her meaning and fell back on some tepid term like great or really good. Am I off base here. Maybe I am to ignorant to recognize gaps in my own understanding?
Sorry to wander, it was just that she was so delightful to follow until she seemed to shy and falter on the basics. I did love her enthusiasm and her ability to help a layman like myself understand what impressed her and why. I loved it.
I have a story or two for you, but it’ll have to wait for later.
Good morning, and Good night, Gerbil Nation.
Happy Cruel Pet Parent Monday, GN!
G’mornin’ / g’night, dv8.

Cheers for your Eyeball Update yesterday; may things continue on a positive trajectory.
SackO’SugarK and FTR went to see “Dune” last night; the capsule review I just got was “meh”.

SVEN: Sounds like good news overall on the eyeball front.
We’ve been praying for you.

The main part of the storm has arrived -- good amount of hard, steady rain.
Good evening. Another week begins for all of us.
I have stories, as I said, but I’m short on time this evening. Maybe if I get a lull while at work I can tell one tonight.
Have a safe and productive night, Dv8.
