Thanks for the Olavo de Carvalho video; I don’t know why more people don’t understand what he expressed so clearly.

How about that Whoopi Goldberg, eh? She appropriates my culture and then has the audacity to state that the Nazis (aka the Master Race) exterminating millions of Untermenschen (aka “racially inferior” Roma, Jews, etc.) had nothing to do with race.
The Shoah had everything to do with race.
I wish someone would cancel her permanently with three rounds of a decently robust ammunition caliber.
Not hyperbolic; she’s an ignorant and (banally) evil POS. The other Estro-Hags of “The View” aren’t much better IMO; I found their responses to be imbecilic.
My adolescent Dad, his sisters and his Mom had to watch my great-grandma being loaded into the back of a truck with other old and infirm people. The truck was driven through the gates of the camp until it was out of direct view, the exhaust system was rerouted into the back of the truck; when the truck returned, it was empty.
And a twunt like “Goldberg” (real name: Caryn Elaine Johnson) gets paid millions of dollars to spout garbage on national TV and is a beloved personality?
My animus is personal. Deeply fuckin’ personal.
Death to Whoopi. She’s lookin’ pretty obese and sickly; maybe I’ll get my wish soon. 😉

I wonder if in Whoopi’s world if what the Japanese did to the Chinese during WWII also wasn’t racism as it was just yellow people doing what they do to yellow people? And what’s with her cultural appropriation with taking a Jewish name?
Happy Tuesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, dv8 (and Harper!), Fatwa, and Sven!
dv8 -- good night. Get some rest. I hope the Big Route goes well.
Fatwa -- there’s just nothing to say. The incredible racism and anti-Semitism of some people leaves me gobsmacked. I didn’t understand it as a kid, and I understand it even less now.
Apparently she doubled down on Colbert, then today issued a written apology (written by someone else) and issued some “Hey, I didn’t know that Hitler viewed Jews as an inferior race” statements on The View.
There’s something wrong with this societal shift when you look at the clock and realize that it is getting dark out and you haven’t been outside of your house all day. When walking to the mailbox is a highlight.
Working from home definitely takes some getting used to. My one direct report was reclassified to salaried non-exempt (due to a new CA law and the amount she makes) and now has to complete a time sheet, including breaks and lunch. She remarked today that being forced to step away from her computer made for a much better day.
One thing that companies that have adopted the remote work model are missing out on, and I think it’s a serious aspect of work life that will affect their bottom line, is the removal of accidental meetings between workers. There’s two aspects of that that are gone or so changed in the remote world as to be unrecognizable. One is meeting people face to face that then develop into friends, relationships, or even spouses. Yes, the younger generations are more comfortable with virtual friends and such, but a lot of people met their spouse at work. I will bet that not a lot of marriages are going to come out of the remote workplace. (yes, I know, Fatwa and Brenda, but it’s not quite the same)
The other thing is remote work is considerably more regimented than working with others in a physical location. This regimentation means that whereas before you might have bumped into people from other departments outside walking, at the coffee machine, in the lunchroom, etc., but now you deal mostly with your own department via zoom meetings or online chats. Companies that worked to break down those information silos have now put them back up again.
An example. Back when I used to smoke, I’d regularly run into other smokers from other departments and I’d hear about their problems, what they were working on, who was getting fired, etc. One woman from HR was complaining about having to write up a procedure for new employees -- something that she wasn’t very good at. I volunteered to help her with it. The document got written and I made a new friend. Did that help the company out? Yes. Would it happen in this new remote work model? No.
How many times have you walked past a conference room where some department was meeting and you saw a PowerPoint slide up on the screen that interested you? Maybe you hung around outside and watched a little longer; maybe you waited for the meeting to break up and then asked someone for more information. Maybe that led to some fruitful collaboration that solved a problem. That’s not happening anymore.
I read that Whoopi has been suspended. I’m of two minds here. One is that she said something stupid and ignorant and so what? The other is you guys made up the rules, so now live with them.
If they really were to abide by the rules they’ve established, she would be canceled. Fired, banished, shunned, her career irreparably harmed. Given that she’s on the far left, they’ll suspend her for a time, then she’ll be back on the air.
Well, I was off TOR and back on again this evening sometime.
I managed to get to church on Sunday, now, I’m easing my schedule back toward night again.
Good morning, Dv8 -- good-bye, January.
Happy Kolliseum Kitteh Tuesday, Wheelizens!
Hi, Sven and dv8 (and Harper!!1!)
Sven --

I agree. Completely.

Very fair point re the Japanese and Chinese.
Not to mention how the Japanese treated the mostly white American, Australian, and British POWs.
BTW, that was Paddy that posted that video -- I just commented on it. Kudos, Paddy.
well, I guess it’s goodnight if I want to get enough sleep for the Big Route tonight.
Maybe I’ll see you later this afternoon, or maybe not.

Anything new on the Whoopi front? Any more brilliant insights from this most beautiful and smart woman?

On the plus side, at least she knew that someone named “Hitler” killed a bunch of people called “Jews.”
Even at that low a level, I’m not sure she could clear that bar without difficulty.

Anyhow, just something that’s been on my mind.
