Scanning the news, I’m a little surprised that several abortion clinics have announced they are shutting down and canceling appointments. I thought at least a few would stay open in states where abortion is now illegal or restricted and dare the authorities to do something. It would make for great theater.
Thinking further on this, it is a tactic that I think they’ll use. Right now, protests are too disjointed to be of much use -- they don’t have a specific target. Yes, they are angry, but where to focus their anger? They could go after those organizations and institutions that were against abortion in the manner they have over the last two months, but that has the potential to backfire. What they need is their figurehead -- they need their George Floyd to personalize their issue and rally behind.
How to do that? Pick a location, probably in the South because that region is an easy target with the added stereotypical benefits of religion and racism, and announce that it is staying open. Put the call out for volunteers to march and provide an escort shield so that the clinic can remain operational -- that fills the streets and makes police response a certainty. Then they have to manufacture victims that will become their heroes and standard bearers -- probably the head of the clinic or one of the doctors. Ideally, someone from their BIPOC tribe.
Given that they’ve had two months to plan, I bet this happens this week.
It’s what they have to do to have a chance for the elections in November because they have nothing else.
The mistake in this debate are the states that are or will immediately outlaw abortion. I understand their reasons, but wherever you land on this issue, you can’t deny that this is a huge change in our culture. Much better would have been to give these laws a three month waiting period before implementation.
The left loves victims that can be turned into martyrs for their cause and they love anecdotal events. Prior to the elections, there will be a 13-year old girl that got pregnant in a state that outlawed abortion and that dies trying to self-abort in some fashion. She’ll become the face of this movement.
Glancing through the Sunday “news” shows, I’m once again amazed that I didn’t see one person asked the fundamental question: “When does human life begin?”
A blessed Sabbath, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven, and Fatwa!
Y’all have brought up some interesting points regarding the abortion protests. Unfortunately the Left is far too good at manufacturing crises, so why would this case be any different?
I’m battling a creature in my attic that for the last two weeks has successfully evaded my mouse traps 3-4 times and yet taken all of the peanut butter. I put a trail camera up there a couple of days ago and it caught pictures of it -- a small mouse.
These traps have never failed me before, but the mouse is taking the bait and out four traps, it only sprung one.
Thinking through next steps…
OK, rebaited this time with peanut butter and a peanut wedged into the bait cup. I’ll feel bad if I kill it, but they can’t be up there.
Happy Sunday, GN!
I’ve always thought the mullet got a bad rap -- it’s not that bad of a look.
That thread puppeh’s groomer did nothing wrong. 👿
Sunday greetin’s, GN!
Hi, Sven!
Dreamt again of HH-A HOA; it’s like a somewhat milder version of Chinese water torture.
They’re abusers and I have no idea what JimCo did to warrant their actions.

Even Brenda was amused by this:

Pretty sure something along these lines will occur soon; gonna be another “fun” summer, I think.
Some idiot on Reddit suggested taking the protests to rural America because “that’s where most pro-life Christians live” [paraphrased].
Many rural Christians in my little corner of Twitter are egging them on to do just this and, how you say, “find out”.

Mrs. Paddy and I had an excellent dinner with superb service for our anniversary tonight. It’s nice when a plan comes together.
