Happy Friday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven!

I’m sure the riddles will be as inscrutable as cats themselves.

I got an email from our school psychologist last night telling me that a student record had disappeared from the special education database and that a record in the state student database needed to be deleted. Could I please do it? This is something that the Director of SpEd should be able to do by now. Sure, no problem. First thing this morning I delete the requested record, then I check the special education database and I found the “missing” record. It was exactly where it was supposed to be. I let both the school psychologist and SpEd director know about the task completion and where to find the student record. The SpEd director responded that the record wasn’t there, but that a data technician had found it and restored it (nope, they don’t have that ability). She also said that she’s going to be working with the data technician in the fall to go over all the reports and activities in the state database that she “will be taking over”. Those were all things she has been responsible for for the past two years, but Paddy has taken care of because “no one told her she was responsible for that” and/or “no one has trained me on that”.

I am so glad that I will have minimal, if any, interaction with her next year.

Have you thought about reaching out to the data tech and asking if that’s what they did? Or does that open up a can of worms for no good reason?

There’s really no point. The data technician doesn’t have that type of access. They use the same interface that schools use and there is no way to restore a deleted entry, other than by manually re-entering the data. The database also showed that we were in possession of the record. The SpEd director really doesn’t understand technology and why she needs to make certain entries in the database and not make others.

Perhaps she’ll learn?

I doubt it. She’s had two years to learn and hasn’t. They’re bringing in someone new in an admin position under her that will most likely take on these responsibilities.

I had a rough work week due to what I see as the stupidity of teh bestest place ever’s IT department where I reside. Tuesday, I had to stop work and take a few shots of vodka to calm down. I lost it somewhat with my newest boss saying how f**king stupid a particular decision was along with a few other vulgarities. I wrestled with going over some heads, but ended up talking to another guy there that understands and struggles with the same management problems and decided to let it rest. I’ve done what I can, documented the whole mess, and will let it go for now.

So it goes. It’s a paycheck.

I can buy that you never told anyone that you dislike cats.
Can I buy that you actually dislike cats? No. I’ve seen the photographic evidence.

Sheesh. Oilers up 3-0 in the 2nd. Panthers are going to drop 3 in a row and go home for Game 7.
