Happy “Perfectly Calm” Wednesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven!

The school I work at has made two major changes this year:

  1. Supervising teachers will have a narrow grade band of students, e.g. grades 3-4, instead of K-12.
  2. All high school students will be put in college-track classes (which is why I’m now teaching high school science).

The principal and vice-principals have known this since May, at the latest. You’d think they would have had the details worked out by now. Instead, we get an email saying “Several questions have been raised about [this, that, and the other]. I am working to get you those answers as soon as possible.” All of the issues in question could have been decided on in one two-hour meeting with the appropriate people. It’s not rocket surgery.

#1 seems to make sense, but #2 not so much. No trade school options?

You’re right too, that it would have been good to let people know a lot sooner than they did.

#2 is more of a state mandate.

What gets me is that they clearly gave no thought to the impacts of these changes and how to address those impacts. Now that people are asking for clarification, they have no answers.

Almost makes you think they may have no good answers.

True, but they should at least have had answers by now.
