Welcome back, Paddy -- hope you and Mrs Paddy enjoyed your trip north.
I read that Brandon and company are heading here to Santa Ynez for a week’s vacation after his grueling speech last night. I saw bits and pieces but couldn’t bring myself to sit and watch it and missed most of it.
Happy [checks calendar] Tuesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven!
Mrs. Paddy and I had a wonderful time. Sunday we were sitting on the veranda of a small winery, gazing out at the rolling hills, dotted with oaks and vineyards, enjoying the calm and realizing how much stress we had, that we hadn’t realized we had. It was wonderful to just sit and relax and not have to “do”.
We enjoy visiting small wineries and listening to their stories. It was amazing how many of them were interconnected. A server would ask where we were going next and would ask us to say hi to the people at that winery. When we did, they would inevitably say, “Oh, you had [so-and-so] as your server? He’s great!” We learned that the head winemaker at one winery we visited also had his own winery. At the first, he follows strict style guidelines. At his own, he let’s his creativity have free reign. The wines at both wineries were spectacular -- and very different.
We’ll take the 101 to Santa Barbara and then cut across San Marcos Pass and pick up the 101 in Buelton again. Saves about 15 miles and breaks up the drive nicely. In your case, being further south, I can see the 5 being the better alternative.
Whichever side of the abortion debate you find yourself on, this is an incredibly worrying development. It was bad enough making it a crime to talk about abortion in a public street. Calling for this ban to cover non-speech, and even private thoughts, is 10 times worse. Labour MP Stella Creasy summed up what one suspects is the attitude of many in the new government on X last week: ‘No one has a “right” to pray in front of an abortion clinic – you can pray for women at home if you wish’, she tweeted.
Good morning, GN.

And on to work.

Good you guys got away -- sounds like a nice relaxing trip. Did you take the 101 all the way up or go another route?
We normally take the 101, but this time we took the 5 to save some time.

Although
drivingcrawling through downtown LA is not particularly fun. We took the San Marcos Pass once. It was a nice change.Apparently afraid of the power of prayer.

On forums I often see people from Britain asking why Americans think they need guns to protect them from their government. This is exactly why.
Yep!
But but but…govt good!
