Teh Younger is going in to work on one of the barrier islands this morning, then is evacuating to his girlfriend’s home this afternoon. He and his roommate have raised their furniture off the floor and moved it away from the windows. They’ve placed sandbags around the outside doors and towels at the base of all the interior doors. They’ve done all they can. Now they evacuate and wait.
Teh Younger is going about 20 miles north of Tampa. His roommate is just heading inland and a bit north to higher ground. Neither location had any damage from Helene.
I don’t blame her. At the moment, only the northernmost model puts the hurricane over Titusville, but they’ll still get high winds, lot’s of rain, and then storm surge on Thursday from the backside of Milton.
I don’t know why anyone would be worried about illegals crossing our southern border. Some recent headlines from our Mexican neighbors just looking to make better lives for themselves in America.

Just talked to an old friend -- he’s a year older than me, wanted to work at least another year, but just got an “unofficial” notice of pending layoffs at the end of the year. This job has been killing him for the last couple of years, so he’s of two minds about this -- sooner than he wanted to stop working, but the stress has taken a toll.
He’ll be fine -- the best thing that could happen to him is he gets his notice and a severance package. He’s grown to hate his job the last couple of years and it hasn’t done his health any favors.
No one I know in my age range is happy or has been happy with their work situation the last several years. None of us understand or applaud the changes in the work environment that really took hold beginning 20 or so years ago. I don’t know what that means about my circle of friends, but so it goes.
Thread pic -- what is it with cats and boxes?
Happy Tuesday, GN.
Happy Tuesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven!

When they evacuate, how far north do they go, Paddy?

There’s “higher ground” in Florida? Good luck and prayers for your boy and his girlfriend.
We have a friend in Titusville -- east coast by Cape Canaveral -- she’s pretty nervous.

Thanks, Sven. Her condo is new construction in an area that is not prone to flooding. They’ve got a generator and gas, so they should be good.

Either way, that sucks. I hope he does okay.

The friends in my age range who aren’t retired would agree with you.
We’re going to need a bigger boat.
