I hope Sven didn’t lose power overnight, and if he did, I hope they stayed warm.
Next week is the last week of the semester, so students are scrambling to catch up with work they should have done earlier, or could have caught up on over Winter break.
Power has stayed on -- I’m quite surprised. Windy, but no new fires.
The Palisades fire reminds me of J6. The govt response to the BLM riots that ran for months prior to J6 was to downplay them, support them, and basically say that we deserved them. It wasn’t until J6 that protests, protester chants and theater (gallows), fights with police, trespassing, building occupations, etc. became a big deal for them -- an “insurrection.” Beyond the politics and optics of J6, the left’s political/legal/media outrage was driven mainly by the fact that it hit them physically square in the face -- it was their ox being gored.
This round of CA fires is also hitting the left right where they live. In November, 75% of Palisades residents voted for Harris -- no surprise as that’s typical throughout LA County. What isn’t typical is that the Palisades, as well as Brentwood, Westwood, and Hollywood that were threatened last week, are home to not just dems, but rich, celebrity, elitist, activist leftists with access to legacy media. This time it is personal and hitting them hard -- right in the face. Because of that, this story has legs unlike most other fires in recent memory.
If a hostage is dead, how can they still be a hostage? This does not seem like a good deal to me.
Iranian backed terrorist organization Hamas has reportedly agreed to a two part hostage release deal after weeks of negotiations. They’ve been holding more than 100 hostages for over 400 days after they were stolen on October 7, 2023 from their homes and a music festival in southern Israel. Four remaining hostages are Americans.
The details are still coming in, but 33 hostages will be released. Ten of them are deceased, 23 are alive. We don’t have names yet. Thousands of convicted Palestinian terrorists being held in Israeli prisons will be given to Hamas in exchange. A ceasefire will be put in place between Israel and Hamas for six weeks, which could extend into a second phase.
No, that doesn’t sound like a good deal. I’d push for all hostages to be released, releasing at most one terrorist for every live hostage. Every dead hostage reduces the number of terrorists by five. If all hostages aren’t released in the first exchange, then Israel is given the go-ahead to do whatever is necessary to rescue the remaining hostages.
Brandon’s farewell speech -- watch out for 1) An oligarchy, 2) The tech-industrial complex, and 3) Climate change. I hope Trump is ready to jump right on those dangers.
Happy “Great Shot!” Wednesday, Gerbil Nation!

I agree with your approach -- Israel, if this report is accurate, is negotiating as if they are the weaker party.
The “F” in ATF stands for “firearms” not “fire.” Why is the ATF leading the investigation?
Perhaps to insure the proper narrative is followed?
