Happy “Oh no, you didn’t!” Caturday, Gerbil Nation!
Sven -- in re impeachment: the GOP would never band together to force through articles of impeachment. Too many members are essentially Democrats and are more interested in gaining power and invitations to parties than to righting the ship of state and good governance.
Hi, Paddy. Oh well -- impeachment was just a passing thought.
Govt impressions.
I renewed my passport online a couple of weeks back and got an email acknowledgement that I had done so and a note that it could take up to six weeks to process. A couple days later, another email saying they took my payment and approved the renewal. This past Wednesday morning another email saying they were mailing my new passport and supplied a USPS tracking #. I thought, wow -- that was really quick -- good job, govt! Twelve hours later another email saying they approved my application and were now printing it and preparing it for shipment in 4-6 weeks. Seems backwards in terms of sequencing -- not such a good job, govt, but a minor point as long as it gets here.
We hard-copy mailed our tax returns April 14 or so -- we avoid electronic filing -- with refunds from both state and federal due us. A check from the Feds came to us last week and from the state a couple of days ago -- nice as last year it took CA 3-4 months to get a check to us.
From what I’ve read, Jake Tapper’s opinion as to why govt personnel and elected officials were onboard with hiding Brandon’s “difficulties” is that they all felt that Trump was an “existential threat” and anything done was for the greater good. That makes sense, given what I know of leftists, but it ignores that Trump announced his bid in late 2024 -- pretty much two years into Brandon’s term and yet they were covering it up during those two years as well. What was their excuse then?
Tapper and others are still baffled as to why the media didn’t report on Brandon’s mental/physical condition and ended up parroting the govt lies and trashing anyone that said anything contrary for more than four years. The answer is the same: all of legacy media viewed not just Trump as an “existential threat,” but included everyone non-leftist as also an “existential threat.”
It’s always for the “greater good” with these people.
Legacy media is not going to change -- going back to Thomas Kuhn and his book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions -- legacy media will only change when this generation of reporters and columnists die off and a new generation replaces them. Paradigm shift stuff.
