I had to laugh, albeit a little bitterly, but nonetheless laugh at this news re: Mrs Sven’s cancer.

In the latest update on KIMMTRAK® (tebentafusp), researchers reported long-term survival data that shows a significant improvement for patients with metastatic uveal melanoma:

• The likelihood of being alive at 5 years doubled (16% vs. 8%)
• Median overall survival improved to 21.6 months vs. 16.9 months
• Benefits were seen even in patients with more advanced or aggressive disease

Historically, metastatic uveal melanoma has had a 5-year survival rate of less than 5%, making these findings especially impactful. This is also the longest follow-up reported in a Phase 3 trial for this disease—and for any T cell engager in a solid tumor.

Is it good news? Yes, of course. Is it a treatment that appears to be moving in the right direction? Yes. At the same time I can’t get excited over something that adds 5 months to your life or going up to a 16% chance of making it to 5 years. It’s that word “significant” that I find irksome. Statistically, yes, significant. In the overall scheme of living? Not so much. It’s the wrong attitude, but that’s where I am at this moment.

That’s the problem with so much reporting involving statistics.

Continued prayers for all y’all.
