Happy Monday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven, and Mac!

Today is the start of the last week of school for teachers, before we come back in mid-August. The week is all about paperwork and data entry.

Fortunately none. I spoke with our CFO the other day to see if she had the information she needed to complete a request for reimbursement for certain expenses. She does. I wouldn’t have asked, except earlier she asked me to help her put together the initial request because our VP of Special Education was “just too busy” to provide the needed info.

My father was the youngest of his siblings and I’m the youngest of my cousins with an older brother. For whatever reason, I’ve ended up with the family’s old photographs and various documents. No one in what remains of our family, nor their children, are interested in the stuff. There’s historical records and photographs related to both WWII and labor unions as well as other personal documents and photographs. Some of this stuff I’ll donate to various groups -- my grandfather has several boxes of his stuff at the University of Cincinnati -- and there’s probably some veteran’s groups that would be interested in the WWII stuff, but the old personal photos and such will likely end in the trash when I die.

My relatives were all exceptional men and women that lived through some interesting times. It bothers me that when my generation dies -- and that’s not many years far off -- that no one will remember them. I’d like at least to preserve them digitally and have them available online. On the plus side, I’ve already done the hard part and have scanned at least 90% of everything I have, but where to store them so they can be found by anyone that is interested -- for whatever reason -- and where they have a shot at being around forever?

ChatGPT came up with using the Internet Archive as the first step and then a genealogy site FamilySearch. I played with both over the weekend -- and maybe I just need to spend more time -- but neither really gets me excited. Any thoughts on an alternative?

That’s a great question, Sven. I’m sorry I don’t have an answer for you, but would be interested in what you find out.

Mrs. Paddy has tried to get her mom to identify people in the old photographs she has, but as her Alzheimer’s progresses, that is becoming more and more difficult. I see lots of history vanishing into the dust.
