I just read about the fire at the Hundred Acre winery near Calistoga last year. One vineyard was completely destroyed and at least 30 others lost their crops. Apparently only one winery has received a settlement payment. By some coincidence, that winery is owned by Gov. Newsom.
Still uncomfortably hot out here, but no fires or winds, so that’s a win. I do have the feeling we’ll have some fire trouble still this year, especially since optimism has never been one of my character flaws.
You guys ever watch the series The Lioness on Paramount+? I stayed away from it cuz I was burned out on super hero girl-boss type of series, but it’s not bad at all.
We watched the first season. I have season 2 on disc and I am in the process of downloading season 3. We will probably watch them after catching up on House of the Dragons and Reacher. We are enjoying Reacher so we will watch it when I get the last episode on September 16. We have watched the first three seasons.
We just finished Grimm, and we enjoyed it. I feel the main character actor was weak but it had a great set of characters and those actors did a great job, it really made the program for me. They had five and a half seasons on 22 episodes each. The new it was ending and wrapped it up. We liked The Sarah Conner Chronicles but it just cut off at the end of the last season and left things hanging. Rude.
The Sarah Connor Chronicles did just drop off, which was too bad. Don’t know why they didn’t go for more seasons -- maybe just ran out of material? I loved Summer Glau in it.

“FOX President Kevin Reilly canceled the show due to the show not doing well in the ratings as it was moved to Friday Nights and didn’t do well in it’s new time slot.”
After Grimm, we are watching a few movies before jumping into another series. Last night we watched two versions on Wuthering Heights. I had the one that just came out in 2026 and we watched that. I was disappointed and told her I thought the 1939 version with Laurence Olivier was much better so she wanted to watch that as well. She agreed the old classic version was much better. It was rather a trip to see Flora Robson so young, and seeing them “age” her character at the end was funny compared to how she looked later. It was kind of interesting to see Leo G. Carroll so young as well.
I have shown her some old classics before and she often enjoys them. They are a bit special because her Father loved the old movies and actors. I might try showing her The Scarlet Pimpernel from 1934. I recently downloaded a restored copy with much better appearance.
I consider two movies from the 50s my favorites as the best movies ever, Seven Samurai from 1954 and Cyrano De Bergerac from 1950. I have watched both countless times and still get hooked. I will go to watch parts and get sucked in. I also really like The Professional.
I think the finest science fiction films are Them! and The Thing, from the 50s, and Alien. I think my favorite vampire movie is Let the Right One In, a Danish film.
How would you rate the sequel, Aliens, to Alien? I liked it better. The Professional is a good movie -- I’m surprised you lumped it in with the other two, but adding them to my list.

She did well in it. I wonder if it was just too expensive to make. I think the CGI was costly then.

I really like Miller’s Crossing. Unusual and great.
Speaking of Cyrano, did you ever see Steve Martin’s take on it? It was the movie Roxanne which was quite good.
I remember that movie but never watched it. I am not a fan of Steve Martin or that type of humor.
I felt I should also mention the 13th Warrior. I thought that was a great movie.
