Happy Tuesday, Gerbil Nation!
I’ve got a review session with my AP Chem class this morning -- I’m giving them the multiple choice portion of an old AP test so they can see what they need to focus on. It should be interesting to see how they do.

Late gooooood morniiiiiiing, GN!

Hope your test discomfits your students a bit; guess I’m that mean and petty an old man. 😉

Been conditioning / staining the office floor this morning. I’m a bit better than 1/3 done with the first staining pass and it appears that conditioning the wood is making an enormous difference in the evenness of teh stain.

Live and learn.

I’ll probably do a second coat of stain; based upon a test section in the closet, it doesn’t add much to the “darkness” of the stain, but appears to give it more depth. (Hey…stain and rags are relatively cheap, and the second pass will be a lot less finicky to apply.)

Conditioning matters.

Are you applying using rags? I would have given it a shot with a pad and a pole to save my knees.

Got some good yard work done yesterday: stump removal. There’s a little section up top that I have an idea for, but I’m going to have to do it all in one day as there’s still a little tree that I have to remove-and Mrs Sven won’t be happy with that. The old conundrum about forgiveness or approval-I’ll opt for forgiveness-and if I remove the little feller and have the whole area done while she’s at work, hey, she might not even notice that it’s gone!

Class in a few minutes on Adobe Captivate. Despite the sequester, must keep teh mind sharp.

I’m actually using a good-quality brush which will be used only for staining. (When refinishing and staining furniture, I’ve always used a rag, but had good luck brushing when doing the library floor.) Since I’m letting the stain sit for about 15 minutes per mfg’s instructions, I can only do sections within arm’s reach at a time. The brush lets me get a good clean line at the edge of the last board in each pass; having no problem with lap marks…yay!

Stump removal…gaaaaaaah! Sometime, I’ll share the tale of removing the stump from one of CasaK’s exploding trees; best get to wiping-up stain and applying the next section!

Bet X is excited: Season Finale, despite the Sequester, of Justified tonight.

Good staining, Fatwa.

Class begins.

And good stumping to you, señor; here’s hoping you get forgiveness…

Staining came out reasonably well for the most part; tomorrow: urethane (which is mostly stand-up work, for which my back and wrists will be grateful).

The test went well this morning. The high score was 25 out of 75, the low was 17 (75 questions in 90 minutes, no calculators). I’d like to see closer to 50, but this is a good start. They got to feel what the first half of the test will be like; the depth and breadth, and how important time management will be. They now have an idea of what they need to focus their studies on.
