Maaaaaan…both major parties have finally, irrefutably removed their masks; it’s scary how many (presumed) voters are okay with the revealed ugliness. While I’m pleased to see a lot of GOP-leaning folks have finally said “enough”, I think it’s far too late to do anything except bend over, close our eyes and think of the republic we’ve collectively pissed away.
I think a lot of voters see the revealed problems of the opposition party, but are still blind to the defects in their own. They identify as part of the party, see themselves as good people, wanting only the best for the nation, therefore the party they identify with can’t possibly be as bad as all that. They don’t support such ideals, thus their party can’t. When all you have are two political parties (thanks, MSM!), where are you going to turn if your political party steps away from your values?
As Teh Older said, sarcastly, “The Libertarian Party is running a candidate for President? Why haven’t I heard of this?”
The GOP used to be in favor of sort-of limited gummint (although happily willing to piss-away tens of billions, not to mention significant liberty, on un-constitutional so-con issues like prohibition).
But they’ve not been in favor of small government for a good half-century; Goldwater was their last presidential candidate who wasn’t a statist tool.
Reagan ratcheted-up civil asset forfeiture in ’84 with the Comprehensive Crime Control Act; things are now so out of hand that in 2014, law enforcement literally stole more stuff from citizens without due process than all of the burglaries for that year combined.
And Bush 41’s “compassionate conservatism” was neither / nor.
Our FedGov is absolutely a criminal enterprise under the actual law (Constitution) which governs it.
“It’s like watching an awful reality show or perhaps an interstate wreck at high speed. Donald Trump is an obscene, narcissistic, self serving, hateful, vengeful, grotesque, moral monster who hates anything that isn’t rewarding him for being him. He is the post-modern man, evolved past Sartre and Camus and (I suppose, finding emptiness) circling back to the pinnacle of self indulgence, Marquis de Sade. He is an awful man. I’ve repeatedly heard that Ted Cruz was born in Canada or wherever, or that he took a loan from such-and-such bank. The former issue never got any traction with me, and as for the later issue, so taking loans is now illegal or immoral? I have a loan on my house. So what? And as for Trump’s bankruptcies? That’s okay, because sadism is all about self indulgence at the expense of someone else.”
I think Fatwa could get behind this sentiment from the article Sven linked:
It doesn’t bother me at all that Cruz was hated by others in Washington. I would have been even more his supporter if Cruz had advocated an old fashioned lynching of most of the Senators and Representatives, or perhaps tar and feathering. No one is angrier than I am over the devolution of things in Washington.
For the record, wood chippers are also an acceptable tool to be deployed. To paraphrase Jefferson, the Tree of Liberty must be re-mulched from time to time.
I respect and regularly read Mick McDaniel. He’s a good man, Conservative, intelligent, logical, and a strong Second Amendment supporter. He has a good post up today and concludes that as much as it sucks, given the choice between Clinton and Trump, he’ll go with Trump.
“There is our choice: Hillary Clinton, who we know will be terribly destructive to our liberties and safety, and who will fully intend it, or Donald Trump, who may fall short of his promises and rhetorical intentions, but may not intend harm. No hope vs. some hope.”
I get it. We know Clinton and what her agenda is. We don’t know Trump’s real agenda, because no one, not even Trump, knows. There’s the slight possibility that Trump will not be as bad as Clinton, but as far as I’m concerned: so what? What I’ve seen of his character the last 9 months is enough for me to say I won’t vote for him. Nothing he can do in the next 6 months will change my mind because he’s already proven himself untrustworthy.
Happy Friday, GN!

Hai, Paddy!

Huh. It’s not Saturday, is it?
Imagine my surprise.

And this is the side we’re supposed to be voting for? I think not!

You are correct re the blockquote, sir.

Anyhow, it’s a good post.
