California Ammunition Background Check System Failures – Bugs or Features?
Feature, fer sure.
What a surprise that a gummint data system doesn’t work properly. I’ve got $5.00 that says the site was designed by a company well-connected to someone in Sacramento, with little or no track record of successful website design. (But with the mandated number of handicapped Panamanian LGBTQ+ coders or some such set-aside carp.)
From what I read, CA ammo sellers didn’t have an opportunity to access or otherwise get familiar with the system before yesterday; don’t know if that’s true or not.
Sorry about the bad Gifs, Folks. guess the site does not support them anymore. I tried what I could think of to make them work. I will try to replace the coming ones with static pictures.
I share the suspicions both that the ammo system was not intended to work well for the citizens or dealers, and that the contract went to someone with political connections. I seem to recall when they were pushing smog 2 back many years, a number of connected people with no experience opened new businesses and applied as testing stations.
Obviously, we can’t hold you responsible for the truncated GIF situation; once again, thanks for all you do every day.
The CA ammo sales situation is an abomination; the fact that such BS exists suggests a bit of Golden State tyranny, no? 👿
Interesting that all o’ them violent, crazy “ammosexuals” out there have remained peaceful and law-abiding despite the implementation of yet another infringement on a basic human right.
Happy [checks calendar] Wednesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, Sven, and Mac!
According to the CA AG’s website, if you attempt to purchase ammo with “a federal non-compliant California driver license or identification card with the notation “Federal Limits Apply” on the front, additional documentation establishing lawful presence in the United States will also be required.” California has only recently begun issuing drivers licences that conform with the Real ID act -- thanks to another government screw-up. How many people are going to have that additional ID with them, or know that they have to bring it with them? As of the end of May, the CA Dept. of Firearms had not made any mention of Real ID requirements.
In checking the department’s website, I found this little nugget:
Please note: this eligibility check requires a manual review of records by a Department analyst. As such, the Department may take longer to respond with a determination as to eligibility. Response times may take several days. Persons will have the ability to check the status of their eligibility check through the Ammunition Eligibility Check Status and Information page (available July 1, 2019).
The law requires an instant check>, yet this is going to be a manual review of records. Who wants to make two trips to the store to purchase a box of .22’s?
No expert, but perhaps try reloading this page? (I think that’s what I did.)
This is cool (if a bit bittersweet):
In case you missed it: Last week, we reopened the Apollo Mission Control Center after a complete restoration to transform the room back to its Apollo-era configuration.
Thinking about Trump’s big 4th of July parade tomorrow. The one with tanks. There’s got to be hundreds of woke lefties that are just itching for their Tiananmen Square moment. Boy if one of them can pull that off, they’ll be getting their soy lattes paid for for the rest of their lives.
I heard the tanks and Bradley’s were to be parked, not rolling down the parade route. Of course that won’t stop some “brave” soi bois from standing in front of the tanks for a photo op.
I had my Betsy Ross flag flying up on the hill until May when I replaced it with a Whiskey Rebellion flag. Ordered a new one today before they all get pulled from the stores for being raaaaaaaaaaacist.
Sadly though, the WR flag is falling apart, which leaves me with a Gasden or a Gonzalez-Come and Take It to fly as a replacement. Think I’ll go with the Gonzalez.
Happy Independence Day Eve morning, Wheelizens!

And speaking of crack monsters:
Likely built by the same group that put together the Obamacare web site for the Feds.
Hi, Sven!
The same thought went through my mind re the Obamacare site.

At least so far…

Hey, Paddy!
Wonder if the CA Border Protection Stations are going to start looking for contraband ammo in addition to ferrets, fruits, vegetables, etc.
Mac --
You’ve either successfully sorted out the thread GIF issue or teh capricious intertubes godz have intervened.
Thank you, Fatwa. I am still not seeing them complete but maybe that has to do with temp files on my computer. I will play around a bit.

I don’t say it often enough, but thank you Mac for keeping the lights on.
