CA moved several gun control bills out of committee yesterday. The Dems are pushing what they now call the LIFE Act-catchy title that- comprised of 8 separate bills including:
SB 53 (de León) requires a background check for all ammunition purchases;
SB 47 (Yee) closes a loophole in California’s assault weapons ban that allows guns with a “bullet button” to sneak through;
SB 396 (Hancock) outlaws “mega-magazines” that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition;
SB 755 (Wolk) expands the list of Californians who can’t legally own guns to include those convicted of multiple drug/alcohol convictions, carrying ammunition onto school grounds, active participation in street gangs, and others;
SB 374 (Steinberg) bans semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines and retroactively requires an ownership record for all guns;
SB 683 (Block) expands safety certificate requirements to long guns, rather than just handguns;
SB 567 (Jackson) closes a loophole in California’s definition of an illegal shotgun to include a shotgun with a revolving cylinder and a rifled bore.
At the risk of sounding intemperate (although I am), these folks really need to be taught what “shall not be infringed” means in very unequivocal terms.
“What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance?” -- Thomas Jefferson
But it’s for the children. And with so many other things demanding attention, like Rush calling someone a slut, teh War on Women, teh War on the Poor, teh War on Dark-Skinneds, why, who has time to worry about this?
And oh yeah-we have to ban plastic bags throughout the state.
You may not remember, but in 2000, the California State Supreme Court, in a ruling on the Roberti-Roos Assault Weapons Control Act held that there is no right to keep and bear arms in California.
Unlike a lot of other state constitutions, CA does not have any Second Amendment-like language. I don’t recall that finding specifically in that case, but since the McDonald SCOTUS decision, think it’s a new playing field even in CA. Just got to get things filed and through the courts.
The unanimous opinion, written by Justice Brown held that “If plaintiffs are implying that a right to bear arms is one of the rights recognized in the California Constitution’s declaration of rights, they are simply wrong. No mention is made in it of a right to bear arms. (See In re Rameriz (1924) 193 Cal. 633, 651 [226 P. 914, 34 A.L.R. 51] [“The constitution of this state contains no provision on the subject”].) Moreover, “[i]t is long since settled in this state that regulation of firearms is a proper police function.” (Galvan v. Superior Court (1969) 70 Cal.2d 851, 866 [76 Cal.Rptr. 642, 452 P.2d 930].) We reject any suggestion that the regulations at issue here impermissibly infringe upon the right to defend life or protect property guaranteed by the California Constitution. “

Lots of ‘tings up in the air.
My MiL’s boyfriend died this past Monday, which led to my SiL flying out to Colorado Springs to collect her and the bare minimum of things she’d need to start getting settled in L.A.
Everything else is a toss-up. Funeral? Who knows where, when, if. Our former petsitter doesn’t sit anymore, so I have to try and find a new one…who can handle four dogs, one being a puppy who’s particular to his “flock” and I have no idea whether he’d listen or even care about a stranger.
If I can’t find one, that renders the when, if, where funeral point moot. For me, at least -- besides, my MiL thinks I’m Mr. X’s first wife these days.
But hey, I have an hour massage today, and then graduation from the Citizen’s Police Academy, so I’ve got that going for me.
Possible arrest in the Boston bombing? I was wondering why all the churches around here were full-all them libs praying fervently that it’s a white male Tea Party NRA guy.
Some talking head on MSNBC was asking her guest why so much confusion and conflicting information about an arrest/no arrest. Duh. Do you think it could have anything to do with your own profession-the media-and their standards? Not that they ever go off half -cocked or anything like that. No sir. Responsible professionals, them folks.
The big gun control vote is about to begin-the evil greedy NRA vs. the children. Will our ultimate and most precious resource win out against the cadre of moneygrubbing old white men? Will common sense prevail over stony hearts?
I’ve already seen a few tertiary syphilis victims are blaming the Boston bombings on the Mossad.
Sheesh.
(Insider info: The Mossad’s also responsible for killing off the dinosaurs, the destruction of Atlantis and planting all of the “phony evidence” supporting evolution.)
They can make one -- in a treyf kitchen -- just not eat it “legally”.
When I was a kid, we knew a few “conservative” joos who kept kosher at home but ate spare ribs at Chinese restaurants; always wanted to ask them why they thought those restaurants were some sort of Romulan Kashrut Neutral Zone.
So they can feel “special”, I suppose. (Some also enjoy wearing big funny hats and tassels.)
==========
A probable majority of my fellow Joooos worldwide would question my Joooishness due to eating non-kosher stuff, having a couple of piercings, not having been bar mitzvah’ed…plus teh general lack of being “observant”.
But anti-semites seem to go with the “one drop rule”.
Just watched Obama’s statement about the cowardly Senate in thrall to the evil NRA. Barack is angry. Barack is disappointed. Barack is ashamed of us. Barack vows to continue fighting for commonsense gun safety legislation that saves even one life.
Somehow I think that Barack cares as much about guns as he does about shutting down Gitmo. How’d that work out?
You and Paddy are on the same page tonite, Fatwa-showing remarkable restraint by just calling him a punk.
I try not to make a habit of it, but I will happily watch Piers Morgan tonite and laugh my ass off as he showers righteous British disgust on the NRA and the Second Amendment.
Happy Hump Day and Sven’s Birfday 2/7!!1!
Which calls for Paris Hilton cake…and I brought enough for everybody.
*Flees*
Heh. You’re a giver, Fatwa.
When I first glanced at the @Daily Truffle at the bottom of the pic, I read it as “@Daily Tumble”.
Given the, erm, subject matter, that’s quite understandable.
Good morning, Gerbil Nation!
Happy birthday II of 7, Sven!
Metal Metal Metal
Release the Draconian!

Our Draconian is bigger than their Draconian.
Well isn’t that special!

Sorry I missed yesterday’s kickoff.

Condolences, X.
Massage? Jerrie is in Texas? I thought he was heading to Georgia? Or did he follow Mac’s directions?
TeX --
Condolences, “oy!”, enjoy your massage and congrats on your graduation:
Gotta give the NRA props for this:
Possible arrest in the Boston bombing? I was wondering why all the churches around here were full-all them libs praying fervently that it’s a white male Tea Party NRA guy.
Clearly a white Tea Bagger:

Well, at least wearing a white cap.
Yeah, but it doesn’t have three corners.
Well, there is that. I jumped the gun.

Vast resrources!
Frequent FAILs!

Jooooos. Is there nothing they can’t do?
Make a decent bacon cheeseburger.

Toomey-Manchin bites the dust. Too bad, so sad, and all that. Let the spin commence.

We saw that too; I’m pretty ashamed of -- plus angry and disappointed with -- him.
What an ignorant punk.
That man is just 200 pounds and a pulse away from Chavez.
That oh-so-faint evil chortling you hear may be from Larryville.

I revised that comment many times before posting.
(BTW, he’s also scrawny and pencil-necked.)
