Fatwa Arbuckle: Misanthropologist

Monday…gaaaaaaah!!1! I feel rather like teh thread-kitteh looks (but look much less presentable).

============

Funny how those (alleged) two rogue IRS employees may have increased forty-four-fold, according to the excuse given for the revenuers missing Congress’ 05/28 deadline for documents.

How odd that Doug Shulman’s wife works for a “progressive” non-profit called Public Campaign. Not to mention that Lois Lerner seems to have fiddled with a 1996 Senate race in Illinois (at Durbin’s request) when she worked at the FEC.

Too bad I have very little faith that Issa’s going to go for blood.

Well, I’ve always considered a few to be like 88.

Sen Lautenberg is dead. Good riddance.

Monday morning salutations, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa!
Where’s TeX with our morning coffee?

Today starts a week of presentations by my students -- approx. 5 minutes each. Some will be good. Some will suck eggs. Most will be meh (put together at the last minute). It’s going to be a long week.

What kind of presentations and on what subjects?

Sven -- I tell them to pick a subject that they are interested in, find the chemistry in that subject, then make a 5 minute presentation to the class about it. They can present in any format that they choose -- just make it interesting. Typical presentations are powerpoints. A few will make a video. Once in a while, someone does a demonstration. Some combine multiple formats.

While I doubt it was an umlaut austerity measure, teh Deutsch have dropped their longest “authentic” word:
Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz!!!1

Addendum(b):

Its always struck me as strange that there’s no umlaut in “umlaut”.

Hit the casino last week, and after digging myself a huge hole and jumping in head first, Mrs Sven shared some of her winnings with me and got me flush and plus. Made a few bucks on 21, then some nice runs at video poker, and the huge capper was when I moved over to the Let it Ride table so I could see the Kings game: a $26 bet turned into a $1150 win when I get dealt 3 8s and the dealer turned over the 4th one to give me quads.

Anyhow, we’ve been cutting household expenses wherever possible, and one of the first things to go was the premium teevee channels on the cable box. Mrs Sven was a little bummed cuz she really likes Game of Thrones. Yesterday, to say thanks for bailing me out, I took some of my winnings and reordered HBO so she could binge watch the entire series. She hasn’t seen last night’s episode, but I watched the last part of it this morning and Ace has a post up on the episode with a very amusing video of fan reactions.

This HBO season is based on the third book in the series which came out like 15 years ago. How anyone could be caught by surprise at all the killings is a mystery to me. The third book (of five) is the last one that Martin wrote that made much sense or was worth reading. HBO is devoting two seasons to it, and my guess is that they won’t be able to proceed with a fifth season without major edits or rewrites to the storyline-something that Martin might be happy with as he really screwed the pooch with his last two novels.

Anyhow, go over to AoS and watch the video-pretty funny.
