Fatwa Arbuckle: Misanthropologist

Sunday salutations from Happy (and sweltery) Larryville, here in the Peach State of our great “constitutional democracy”.

(Constitutional Law lecturer/perfesser [sic] my hairy, Hebraic arse.)

But this latest national conversation will be either you think dead children are OK or you don’t.

Like the ones every week in Obama’s adopted home town who are ignored…unless their cadavers can be used as political props?

Sven and Paddy --

I’m pretty pissed to see that your 2A rights are about to be severely abridged yet again by the PsOS in Sacramento. They -- like so many other legislators in this country -- need a pointed reminder of precisely why that amendment exists in the first place.

Mac --

Not only is this not the country I grew-up in; it’s not even the country I thought I grew-up in. (On the plus side, reading the news each day is probably equivalent to a moderately vigorous aerobic workout.) 😉

Rather than mellowing-out a bit as I approach teh six-decade mark, I find myself far more angry and “radical” than I ever was as a yout’. (While that likely would have happened anyway -- given events -- I find that having become a “family man” almost five years ago also makes a significant difference in that regard.)

A blessed Sabbath, Gerbil Nation!
My brother and sister-in-law are spending the weekend at the beach to escape the heat of the Inland Empire (the time-share condos don’t have a/c so it’s actually hotter inside than at their home!), so they dropped by to pick up some savings bonds that my Dad had. Probate on my Dad’s estate should close soon and we need to sell the bonds to pay the probate attorney ($13.5k for a mini-probate! Fees are set by the state!). Afterwards, we all joined my nephew and his girlfriend for dinner. It was the first time Mrs. Paddy and I had met her. She seems like a really nice, young lady and we’re hoping she has a good influence on him. Not long after we got home from dinner, the power went out. This seems to happen every time we get a really hot streak. It’s almost like the power company isn’t maintaining its equipment and is waiting until things fail before replacing them. Anyways, the power came back on about 5:30 this morning. Hopefully it will be cooler today.

Paddy --

Hope your nephew’s girlfriend is indeed a good influence.

Let’s not forget CA’s world-renowned NIMBYism when it comes to power plants. (Or most other critical infrastructure.)

Good morning--

California is boned on the power side with its normal problems compounded by the loss of the San Onofre nuclear plant. It’s been a miserable week of heat and humidity out here with more to come next week, but so far the power has stayed on. Here’s hoping you get some cooler weather, Paddy, and a reliable flow of electrons.

Regarding CA’s gun bills set for votes this coming week, I can’t see how all of them won’t pass. Nor Jerry Brown signing them into law. So it is what it is. That will be my last straw as far as honoring my compact with govt.

I saw Rand Paul on one of the talk shows this morning saying he was ‘proud’ of Obama for deciding to consult with Congress before doing whatever he is going to do in Syria. Proud? Really? The a**hole is just doing what he ought to be doing given the country he lives in—it aint like it’s a big deal, but all the libs and several other misguided fools prattle on about how wonderful Obama is, what a deep thinker, what a great man in a difficult position. Slews of official White House photos released showing Obama in various stages of deep thought, Obama engaged in deep and complicated debate, Obama sternly resolute, Obama thinking things through—and the photos of Obama from 9/11 last year as our ambassador and others were killed?

And after Obama’s wonderful thoughtful address to America on Syria yesterday, what do he and Biden do? They go play a round of golf. Amazing.

Mac-you outdid yourself with the thread video this morning; can’t wait for Mrs Sven to get up so I can show it to her!

On the other hand, it makes me very nervous as to what the future holds at our place….

So the Patriots cut Tim Tebow yesterday. The guy has gotten the short end of the stick three times now. Hope he lands someplace where with the right coaches and the right team he can be successful.

Not sure what all is up with my Raiders. Looked awful in pre-season. I expect them to better their 4-12 record from last year but that’s not aiming particularly high. Sadly, Shane Lechler is now with the Texans, so the only consistent part of our game is gone.

Good evening, Gerbil Nation! Just got back from a memorial service for a long-time member of my congregation. It was a good service, but the hard times are just beginning for John as he begins life without Pat.

The power went out again at 8:30 this morning and wasn’t on again until after 1:00 pm. They replaced a transformer about a quarter mile from my house. Of course on the phone, SoCal Edison blamed the outage on storm activity. We must have missed that extremely brief, very localized storm.

Huh. I think I dropped a comment-anyhow, Paddy, sorry about your friends. Thoughts and prayers.

And Mrs Sven loved the coon grabbing watermelon-she got all mushy faced watching it over and over and over
