Good morning/afternoon/evening/whatever, Gerbil Nation!
We just got in from float decorating and are going to try to get a little sleep, but not enough to throw off our sleep patterns.

See y’all later!

Happy 254th Birfday to teh Guinness Dublin Brewery!

Arthur Guinness started brewing ales in Leixlip, County Kildare, and then from 1759 at the St. James’s Gate Brewery in Dublin. On 31 December he signed a 9,000-year lease at £45 per annum for the unused brewery. However, the lease is not valid in the modern day, because the brewery has expanded beyond the original 4-acre site, and consequently bought out the property.

====================

It is popular with Irish people both in Ireland and abroad and, in spite of a decline in consumption over recent years, is the best-selling alcoholic drink of all time in Ireland where Guinness & Co. makes almost €2 billion annually.

Hola, Gerbilinos!
Casa du Furnijur is awake, sore, and lounging about. The cat is still annoyed at us for leaving him alone for so long.
The float was not completed when we left, but there was not much left to do and at least one of us needed to be awake enough for the hour drive home, so there it is.

Sven -- for each float there is a notebook that lists what material will be used for each part of the float (although some details are just listed as ‘materials as needed’). There is also a rudimentary project plan for the decoration of each float.

Is the framework completely built up before you guys get there to add the flowers?

It should look like this before Dec. 26th:

but sometimes they are still cocooning parts of the float (covering the steel structure with mesh and foam) or welding portions to the float. This year there were large portions of our float that hadn’t been painted yet.

There is also a rudimentary project plan for the decoration of each float.

I presume they’re more detailed than those for the dopey Kochtopus “float” the OWSers made from recycled trash bags a few years ago. 😉

But it’s art and like all great art, making a point about something.

Sheesh, it’s like 5:30 and I’m about ready for bed. They let us out early today from the salt mines, but I’m still fighting this flu bug. Close to getting it licked, but not quite there.

Amazon is pitching me this book: Red 1-2-3 by John Katzenbach
“Three women. They have nothing in common. They are different ages, come from different background, and lead drastically different lives. The only thing that binds them together is their red hair--and that each of them has been targeted for murder.”
