Sure Happy It’s Thursday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!

I started my first class for my Education Specialist credential this week. This first class is on classroom management. Man, I forgot how much I hate reading books, articles, studies, etc. written by “education professionals”. Now I’ve got to regurgitate some of what I’ve read on a discussion thread. Yay, me!

Hai, Sven and Paddy!

I see that CA Assembly wants to screw their taxpayers even moar: First Amendment Advocates Attack CA Bill to Copyright Public Works

SACRAMENTO (CN) — A bill giving California a copyright in records created at taxpayer expense is set for a floor vote Thursday in the state Assembly, over the stark warning of First Amendment advocates.

The bill would take California records and put them within the federal copyright and trademark protections accorded to private intellectual property, allowing the state and county governments to control their use. The bill would cover works such as maps, reports and recorded hearings.

Criminy.

Now I’ve got to regurgitate some of what I’ve read on a discussion thread.

Hope you can get away with just a couple of big chunks. 👿

Good morning. Just checking in to let you all know that I’m still alive. Its been a busy couple of weeks. Teh hubby’s 96yo mom died on Monday, the 23rd . It was expected and she pretty much initiated it herself and let us all know that she was ready to go. Stopped eating and taking her meds. We held vigil at her bedside between the family members, not wanting her to be alone. She stayed at her home and hospice came in and gave her regular doses of morphine. We all said goodbye and she waited till we were out of the room before she left us. We spent last week getting her stuff moved out of the retirement home before the 31st so they dont charge another month. The wake is on Friday, the 10th at my house so Ive been getting things ready for all those relatives to come crashing in. I still havent figured out what I’m going to feed them all. My inner martyr says to spend 2 days in the kitchen and cook up something fabulous all by myself but my head says to call up Porkyland, order up some big trays of mexican goodness from their catering menu and just pick it all up beforehand…If I did that, I could concentrate on family. I really hope my head wins, but that inner martyr is a force to be reckoned with!

OMG!!!!

My bosses are all on vacation in Spain. Right before they left they laid off all employees except me and 2 others. Today the other 2 are also out of town for work stuff so Im here all alone. Today is the first day Ive ever had to “open”. All went well. I got in, turned off the alarm and went to work. About an hour ago, I slipped out of the office to use the restroom that is located outside our office space and when I returned, the door was LOCKED! Instant heart attack!! I’ve been locked out for over an hour, I am a total dork and in a complete panic at this point and I was starting to think Id have to live without my purse, phone, keys and car until Monday. but the neighbor had the landlord’s # and he finally called back and said he was out of town..WHAT??? but they have a locksmith with a master key. It seemed like it took them forever to get here but I’m finally back in. Just shoot me now.

Cali!
Wow! You didn’t need that on top of everything else you have going on! I’m glad you got in without having to call your boss. I’m also glad you survived the purge.

I’m sorry about your loss. I’m glad that all y’all were able to be with her to say goodbye. Don’t give in to the inner martyr. Don’t do it!!!

Cali --

Our condolences re your MiL, along with hugs and good thoughts.

Bummer about the work-related carp but glad you’ve still got a gig…and were able to get back into your office.

I concur with Paddy: go with the catering and spend time with family instead of in teh kitchen!

Thoughts and prayers, Cali. And I side with Paddy and Fatwa: catering.

Odd coincidence. My cousin in Pennsylvania called Tuesday to tell me that her mother, my last remaining aunt, wasn’t doing well. She turned 96 in February. She’s having heart trouble and refuses to eat or drink. I called her Tuesday and talked to her a bit--she was pretty coherent, but in a lot of pain.
