Nice fruit-pet chimeras, Mac. 🙂

(Remember when that gerbil-kiwifruit Photoshop I posted got DHD shut down? Good times, good times.)

I see that Orange County (CA) continues to be a business-friendly environment: (Link) Government Shuts Down Little Girl’s Lemonade Stand. Again.

Another day, another story of ridiculous government overreach.

This time, the story comes courtesy of the Orange County government, which deployed its health officials to shut down the lemonade stand of a 10-year-old girl, Anabelle Lockwood. The lemonade stand, “The Loco Lemon,” was built by Anabelle’s father; she set it up as a gourmet lemonade stand and sold flavors including peach and watermelon. She said, “I always wanted to have a lemonade stand. All my friends were talking about it and I thought it was a good idea.”

It was, until the local government got involved.

Now they want her to upgrade her stand to a commercial stand and file paperwork. The total cost: $3,500. The state wants her to purchase liability insurance, a business license, and pay a fee for use. According to local KTLA news, “they have had to turn down a wedding, corporate events, movies in the park and church events until they get the proper paperwork.”

This is the same Orange County where a judge disqualified all 250 prosecutors from continuing to prosecute a death penalty case due to corruption earlier this year.

Glad they’ve got their priorities straight…like shutting down lemonade stands and squeezing baksheesh from Paddy when he maintains / improves his property.

Good morning, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!

Let’s see if today goes better, or it it turns out to be another Monday. Yesterday, in addition to teachers not having access to email and a few other programs, the main student-learning platform crashed, burned, and refused to let both students and teachers login. Those that were fortunate enough to login then had to deal with a system-wide crash of Blackboard -- a third-party provider of live-connect sessions. It seems too many people were logging in. Phone calls and emails from worried parents flowed freely. Hilarity ensued.

Hai, Sven and Paddy!

Paddy --

That sounds incredibly frustrating; hope you’re serious about having found some hilarity in it.

And speaking of hilarity:

We were talking about Westerns a few weeks ago, and I watched one last night that’s been making the rounds again: Open Range with Robert Duvall and Kevin Costner. Good film.
