Gonna putter around CasaK today, including doing some laundry and getting a start on packing for my “dream trip of a lifetime to beautiful Burbank!!1!” tomorrow.
Bought my first laptop evar a couple of weeks ago. Finally got to a point on my last trip to SoCal where fudging “corporate” paperwork (almost all of which has been Mac-based since I set it up in ’96) on a Windows PC while I’m out there just won’t cut it any more.
(It doesn’t help that Jim’s PC is, to put it charitably, not well-maintained since all of his kids moved out, don’t live close-by any more and therefore can’t “fix” things for him.)
Got a beautifully-refurbished 2012 13″ Macbook Pro at a price I thought was reasonable from a vendor I trust. Updated it to the current OS, installed all the apps I might need for this trip and 3.28G of JimCo archives. (As well as an app I’ve been using to open ancient Corel WP docs since I got my current desktop.)
So far, it has exceeded expectations in every regard and is significantly more laptop than I expect to need for the forseeable future. (It’ll even run nearly all of my music / audio apps, which I have not installed on it; but it’s good to have a backup computer, I reckon.)
And no, I will categorically not be hanging out in coffee shops with it like some pawthetic aging hipster or Hollywood creative-type. 👿
Today’s thread GIF prompted me to -- with a tich of apprehension -- do an image search on “cathole”. Most of the returns fell into one of two categories (which may be embiggened by clicking):

Mrs. Paddy asked me last night if my Professional Development meeting was “an utter waste of time”. I replied, “not utter“. The entire day was geared towards the general education teachers, with nothing for special education. I did get a few questions answered about procedures and did get a little bit of work done.
CNN and MSNBC are iron hard and/or sopping wet, contingent on gender identity, over the protests in Virginia this morning. It’s early for popcorn, but I might just cook up a bowl.
Their narrative is pretty clear: KKK->Alt-right->white nationalists->TRUMP.
I read earlier that the VA governor declared a state of emergency in Charlottesville. Also read last week about Airbnb cancelling the accounts of folks they thought were headed there…which I suppose theymight have a legal right to do; wonder how other users and/or shareholders will react.

Went to tsa.gov earlier to research their new regs about carrying-on laptops. Did a search of the site and every link which looked like it might yield useful info was broken. Good enough for gummint work. 👿
Then searched the web and got the info I needed from multiple news stories, instead. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Imagine we’ll be treated to days and days of sad cable news pundits all worried about the unprecedented climate of hate created by Trump and his racist supporters. The media only seems interested in violent protests when it comes from what they can call the “right.”
The hypocrisy is thicker than LA air in the 1970’s.
Not to overly beat up on the police, but it’s somewhat amusing that govt officials are praising them for the work they did in Virginia today. What I saw earlier were numerous fights between armed individuals with zero police intervention.
