A subdued good morning, Fatwa, and Sven.
I don’t listen to the news at night, so I hadn’t heard about the shooting. It appears the killer suffered from PTSD (the real kind). Our VA system needs to seriously amp up their mental health support system. Grabbing guns is not the answer.
What a mess. Was working at the other plant site in Oxnard today and we were strongly urged to get out due to the Hill fire. Started 101 -- Conejo Grade was completely engulfed in flames -- burning both sides of the 101 which is now shut down. Took the backroads through Camarillo and Moorpark -- flames burning all through the valley. Winds 25 mph steady with 40 mph gusts and going to get worse tonight. Fire in Chatsworth, east and north of us, burning too -- lot of smoke.
Fire and police in Ventura County already wore out -- they were up all night dealing with the shooting.
Right now, we are OK -- fires all east and north of us with the nearest maybe 2.5 miles north. If the winds stay the course, we should be OK, but anything can happen tonight. Lot of power outages in the area.
Did watch the procession of Sgt. Ron Helus from the 101 Freeway -- right outside the plant site. News reports said hundreds lined the roads -- that’s bullshit -- there were thousands. The southbound side of the 101 came to a standstill with many motorists pulling off the road and getting out of their vehicles. American flags all over.
Made me think that maybe CA isn’t complete lost cause.
These fuckin’ people: Moms/Everytown whatever they are called: “We must break the pattern. Congress must make comprehensive background checks a priority in 2019.”
California has had “universal” background checks for a lot of years -- the pistol was legally bought at gun store that I’ve been to more than once. This guy jumped through all the hoops the formerly great state of California has in place- and none of them stopped this killing.
