G’day, GN! In response to Mac’s thread pic, I’m quoting Harper:

*Squeak!!* 🙂

On this day in 1945, Benito Mussolini got whacked; wish that would happen to some of our wannabe tyrants.

In re the “recent unpleasantness” in Poway, CA: I wish more of my fellow Jooos would arm themselves instead of being victims pussies. Criminy…you’d think that an (allegedly) smart people would learn from thousands of years of history.

*Spits*

Am I blaming the victims? Yeah, I pretty much am at this point…at least in America. Stupid, lily-livered bastards.

Black Guns Matter. Caught this guy, Maj Toure, on C-SPAN this morning: https://www.c-span.org/video/?460140-4/washington-journal-maj-toure-discusses-gun-rights-gun-violence-prevention&live

Worth a watch.

A blessed Sabbath, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!

Fatwa -- I read that an off-duty Border Patrol agent was in the temple in Poway and returned fire. Unfortunately in California, the chance of having a CCW holder in any public place is very slim.

Sven -- great video. Definitely worth the time to watch.

Hi, Sven and Paddy!

Unfortunately in California, the chance of having a CCW holder in any public place is very slim.

I am, of course, well aware of that.

I know some honest folks there who carry illegally under the “better judged by twelve than carried by six” doctrine. If a few decent, competent congregants illegally carry at, say, a church or synagogue, that will never be known unless there’s an attack.

CA’s (IMHO) unconstitutional gun laws need challenging; I’m more than tired of dead or injured innocents caused by their shitty laws, shitty legislators and the shitty morons who vote for them.

Too bad the BP agent wasn’t able to end John Earnest; thank goodness he threw a monkey wrench into the attack.

[Rant stifled] 🙂

On the plus side, the media did identify the location as a synagogue and the targets as Jewish as opposed to “Passover worshipers.”

I intensely dislike the Beatles, but this movie looks promising:

Apparently the editors at the NYT International Edition decided this was a good cartoon to publish:

They only retracted it when the push-back became too intense.

I really, really hope someone WTC’s their building; I will dance in the streets and hand out candy.

Not kidding.

Fuck them with a jetliner full of congresspeople.

I’ve heard about bits and pieces about the recent NRA power struggles and troubles, but havent dug deep enough to really understand what’s been going on the past week -- digging through my usual gun sites today, I still can’t figure it out. Anyone have a link to any decent summaries?

Me and Mrs Sven went to the local casino yesterday -- didn’t win anything, but lost considerably less than what I budgeted for and had a good time at some fun tables. We always take Route 154 (San Marcos Pass) from Santa Barbara to Santa Ynez past Lake Cachuma. It’s a beautiful drive and I haven’t seen the lake this full in probably 20 years. Oak trees looking good and wildflowers still blooming.

From SB to the top of the pass before you head down into the Santa Ynez Valley is about 7 miles or so with an elevation gain of maybe 2500 feet. It’s a decent road but windy, single lane with a few passing lanes, and one to take care on. Before we left SB, there were warning signs up about dense fog and the fog was quite thick with visibility of maybe 50 yards or so in places.

So Mrs Sven is driving on our way up yesterday morning and we are about 1.5 miles from the top. The road weaves in out of the mountain so that at times you you have hillsides on one or both sides instead of the steep drop. We are in one of those places and this dump truck is coming down around a corner and the driver goes partially off the road and up the side of a hill stopping at maybe a 30 degree angle parallel to the road. We look back and then look forward -- and Mrs Sven hits the brakes. We were following an F150 type truck about 5 car lengths back doing maybe 35 mph and this guy stops dead right in the road in front of us. We came to a stop maybe 5 feet from his bumper.

The driver leaves his truck and hurries across the road over to the dump truck -- that driver spills out of his cab and a bunch of stuff from the cab follows him to the ground. He looks OK and his truck is more than halfway off the road and not looking like it’s going to tip over. We’re stuck. We can’t back up cuz there’s another car stopped close behind us and even if can get around this idiot who stopped right in the road in front of us, we can’t see what’s coming down in that lane because of a curve and the fog. I’m thinking we are in danger of getting creamed by the cars coming up the pass behind us -- you really can’t see very far because of the fog -- I get out of the jeep and start yelling at this guy to move his fuckin’ truck off the road. Young guy, takes his time coming back across the road and has the balls to tell me to calm down. He gets in his truck and moves it maybe 75 feet to where there’s enough room for him to get on a narrow shoulder and out of traffic.

Good on Mrs Sven for keeping calm and paying attention so we didn’t rear end the F150 guy. I’m still amazed -- who in their right mind stops for any accident in the middle of a road to check on something across the road? In the fog with low visibility? Geez, pull off the road where it’s safe and then go back and check.

Not sure what happened to the dump truck. Maybe his brakes went out and he did the right thing or maybe he just went off the road. Luckily it happened there and not a little further down or he’d have kept on going 1500 straight down.

Geez, Sven -- glad Mrs. Sven was able to stop in time and that the other cars behind you didn’t cause a massive pile-up.
