Fatwa Arbuckle: Misanthropologist

Copy cat.

G’day, GN!

I think it should be mandatory for all “Palestinians” to wear little toothbrush mustaches like that Austrian painter guy. (Fortunately, this will not be a problem for the women.)

BBL.

Hi, Fatwa -- happy Tuesday, GN. Thanks for the model info yesterday, Paddy -- been looking to replace my Cisco router.

No problem, Phil. The Netgear should be more than enough for the number of devices you’ll be connecting to it. The range isn’t the best of the best, but I don’t know how your current router performs in that regards, either.

Happy Tuesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!

This morning I drive out to Menifee to begin two days of administering the Common Core state test to a student. The tests are untimed, but the state provides guidelines for how long it should take to complete. For 3rd graders, the English test should take 3 1/2 hours, and the math test 2 1/2 hours. Just think about 3rd graders having to sit through 3 1/2 hours of testing, then coming back the next day for more of the same! Plus, the English test includes an essay. How good are the keyboarding skills of 3rd graders? This is bordering on child abuse.

Today’s testing went all right. The student took a 5 minute break every 25 minutes and finished the multiple-choice part of the test in about an hour. After a 10-minute break she started on the short answer portion and struggled to stay focused. When she moved on to the part where she was supposed to write a multi-paragraph magazine article, using the two sources she was provided, she slowed down even more. After taking a break for lunch, she finally finished one paragraph and asked to be finished. So that was it. Three hours of driving and three hours of testing. Back again tomorrow for the math test.

That’s a long day, Paddy, for both of you.
