I was thinking, Paddy, that based on some of your recent work narratives that maybe what happened several years ago was for the best? “Best” isn’t the right word here -- what happened to you was vindictive, beyond the pale and that you managed to keep a grip and get through it is a testament to your character, but “best” is the only word I can think of right now and I hope you know what I mean here.
A friend of mine at work was fired the other day for violating an undocumented and apparently previously unknown company policy. After a few days of shock, disbelief, and justifiable anger, he’s feeling relief and tentatively exploring or at least thinking about new opportunities. His dismissal was not good for the company, but likely the best thing that could have happened to him.
I understand what you are saying and have thought that myself. Besides the obvious toll it took, the ongoing financial hit has been an adjustment. On the plus side, I’m enjoying what I’m doing, I feel like I am working for an organization that actually wants to educate students, and I met a group of people this week that had actual skill sets beyond education. Our parent school is in Oklahoma and has about 25,000 students and is expected to grow to 32,000 for the 2019-2020 school year. I spoke with the Communications Director about both internal and external communication and how their marketing plans will integrate with the new CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system they’ve implemented. I’ll be working with the Quality Control director to insure that our processes and documentation for special education are up to snuff. I discussed with the Controller the feasibility of moving some functions that we currently outsource, in-house (and hiring the additional support personnel that would require). It was refreshing to be surrounded by competence.
Oh, and I’ve been promoted. I’ll hopefully get my new contract in the next week or so. I’m not sure what all my contract will call for, or what kind of a raise I’ll be seeing, but my immediate boss wants to train me to take over the department.
Oh, and we’re hiring two of my former coworkers from my previous online school. They are both excellent teachers, understand online instruction, and can handle the case management side of the job, as well.
No ball is the boss of me!
Good morning and happy Saturday, GN!
Hippo Caturday, GN!
Hiya, Sven!
So -- I’m guessing -- actual results-oriented rather than airy-fairy theoretical carp. Good; glad there was real value in it for you, Paddy!
Yep -- it was a refreshing change from the usual.

Hi Sven!

Yes, things are looking up.
I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to read this.
Very cool, Paddy. Thanks for sharing that and congrats on the promotion.
Happy Caturday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven, and Fatwa!
Time to clean the house!
Hi, Paddy and Mac!
Paddy --
Congratters; may the fiscal part of your promotion be a pleasant surprise.
Sven --
Hope your friend lands on his feet relatively quickly.
The Bestest Place Evar continues to live up to its name.

Sadly, I haven’t told half of it -- I need to jot things down as you’ll get a hoot out of it.
