Fatwa Arbuckle: Misanthropologist

Sunday greetin’s, Wheelizens!

I wonder if -- after the pic was taken -- the thread kitteh also started pushing pieces onto the floor. 👿

I was a little disappointed at the quality of the sound engineering.

That’s pretty surprising in this day and age…especially with what’s still a major act. OTOH…

The tech for live sound has gotten every bit as sophisticated as in-the-studio since the dawn of digital pro audio. While manufacturers and sound companies have gotten very good a “ruggedizing” touring gear, when something goes sideways, it’s a whole lot more difficult to diagnose faults than it was thirty years ago, owing to the preposterous sophistication of the gear.

Which, of course, means that a single bad component -- or wonky bit of software -- in a critical part of the huge number of signal chains for an act like Chicago can be very difficult to isolate and correct. Especially in the middle of a show.

FWIW (which ain’t much), my best guess is that some bit of electronics placed across a “mix buss” (summation of numerous individual audio signals) or sub-mix buss was acting-up.

A blessed Sabbath, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa!

I’m sure you’re right regarding the cause of the “blown-out” speaker sound I heard on one piece at the concert. The compression issue may be related to noise restrictions at that particular venue. Noise levels have been a point of contention with nearby residents since the opening of the Pacific Amphitheater.

The NRA event was fun. They were auctioning off several firearms and miscellaneous NRA paraphernalia. Sadly, several items were pulled because they couldn’t get the bids up, but I’m sure they made some money when all was said and done. Mrs Sven bid and won an NRA logoized basket made out of a whiskey barrel -- I’ve never understood women and baskets. It’s like they can never have too many of the damn things.

I bid on an autographed Charlie Daniels plaque -- thought I’d give it a friend of mine who is a big fan, but it’s really nice and I’m thinking of maybe keeping it for myself. Mrs Sven also won a raffle -- an autographed copy of the 2019 California Gun Laws book -- the thing is over 500 pages, but almost indispensable anymore.

Slow and hot day here -- stuff around the house and trying to stay cool. Tatum is a little slow and mopey -- figure from the shots.

Thanks for the after-action report on the NRA event. It’s cooling down around here, so hopefully the temps will drop in your neck of the woods, as well.
