Maaaaaaan…reading the news just gets more distressing every week. But I can’t simply remain unaware of what’s going on, as I think being an informed citizen’s sort of important.
Hard time sleeping so was up and watching some of the usual suspects bemoaning white supremacy and the destruction whiteness has had on people of color (POC) throughout the ages. Again, have to hand it to the left for their excellent use of language -- which would you rather be, a vibrant person of color or a rather dull neutral white person? Color good -- white is just blah.
But white contains all colors, so shouldn’t white people be referred to as “people of all colors” (POAC)? In that case, which would you rather be, a person limited to just one color or a person embodying total diversity incorporating all the colors of the rainbow?
Sadly, because I’m a Jooo, I’m not a “white person”. And despite being a member of a fairly small ethnic group with a history of being persecuted, I’m an oppressor.
It’s all very confusing.
Okay…got a long day of running the world from the shadows; BBIAB.
Happy Tuesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, Sven, and Mac!
Busy morning, already. Had a long chat with my boss about one of our vendors that we’ve decided to terminate. They were basically running a private, religious school for severally disabled students, without actually being a school, and using our funding to cover the costs of support services for these kids. We had four students with them last year and service providers (occupational therapy, speech therapy, adaptive physical education, etc.) cost $10k per month. This year, with 10 students, we were looking at $30k per month.
(Drinking heavily’s probably not a good option.)
Well, carp! Now I’ve got to figure out a plan B.
Sven -- on forms that ask for race/ethnicity, I’ve taken to choosing “other” if that’s an option. If they have a blank to fill in, I write in “celtic”. No one else is given a color to identify with -- I don’t see brown, yellow, or red -- so why should I be discriminated in that fashion? If the choice is “Caucasian”, I reject that because my people weren’t from the Caucasus.
Sounds like you had a shifty vendor; glad you’re able to “fix” that.
Well, carp! Now I’ve got to figure out a plan B.
Kindly keep me posted; perhaps your solution will work for me, too. 😉
I, too, often tick “other” or “decline to state” for race. If I’m feeling particularly ornery, I’ll invoke my 290-year-old kinship to Jacob Lopez D’Olivera and check “Hispanic”.
I suppose I should be grateful that “Jew” isn’t an option…yet.
Gooooood morniiiiiiiing, GN!
I don’t think there are enough cats in that box.

What to do, what to do…

BBL.
At least those cats know to stay put.
Heh, just turn on that vacuum cleaner.
Maybe that’s why they’re all in the box.

G’day, Sven!
That’s wonderfully twisted-yet-straightforward reasoning.

Good morning Gentle Gerbils.
Hiya, Mac!
Hope that you and Elena are well.

Lately, I’ve been going with “American”.
That has merit. 🙂
Will use.
I like!
