Squirrels…the power of nuts. 👿

Happy Mid-Week Day, Mac. Sven and Paddy!

…if the goal is to prevent their old, poorly-maintained equipment from starting a fire.

Which is apparently the case. Just looked online and saw Jim teh Roofer may also lose power in Camarillo, too. Which will effect my ability to do my job, due to lack of communications.

JFC…how the hell is this sort of third world bullshit even remotely acceptable in 2019?

It’s an interesting experiment. Our product was determined to be responsible for damages and deaths under a certain set of conditions, so when those circumstances reoccur, we will not make our product available to avoid possible damages/deaths.

If the consequences of that action are really burdensome, and they will be if any outage lasts more than 12-24 hours, then the utility can throw up its corporate hands and say what do you want us to do? Damned if we do; damned if we don’t. Perhaps you should pay for us to upgrade our equipment and delivery infrastructure so that we can meet both safety and delivery objectives.

Funny thing about that, the utilities are guaranteed a certain rate of return by the state. Every time I read one of their “notices of intent to raise rates”, one of the stated reasons is to upgrade equipment. Shouldn’t the cost of maintaining your equipment be built into your business costs?

On the plus side, temperatures are not expected to rise like during most Santa Ana events. If it was windy and a 100 degrees out, that would be truly miserable.

As far as preparation goes, checking on batteries, charging up what can be charged up, gassing up the vehicles, and checking on food supplies. Luckily we have a gas stove top, so should be able to do some cooking and the BBQ is still active.

And a blessed Yom Kippur to those of the Jewish faith.

G’day, Sven!

Cheers for your Yom Kippur thoughts; I am unrepentant. 👿

Glad you’re prepared and the temps will be reasonable out there in the event SCE and PG&E pull the plug.

The CA government giving those utilities an “out” like that is appalling; guess they provide lots of “good union jobs” (and commensurate campaign donations) to Golden State Dems.

Jim had power early this morning and is now on-site in Echo Park; the rest of the guys live in areas unlikely to get blacked-out.

Hope the IT folks at Teh Bestest Place Evar don’t cause problems for you due to their ineptitude.

Happy Squirrel-y Wednesday, Gerbil Nation! And Chag Sameach!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!

Sven -- I hope your back is doing better. Back pain is miserable.

Thanks for that, Mac; I should have done a little due diligence before posting.

Dallas cops claim that Joshua Brown -- the witness / neighbor in the Amber Guyger trial -- was shot dead in a drug deal gone sideways. Some guys from Alexandria, LA allegedly drove more than 300 miles to Dallas to buy some freakin’ weed.

A few more details at the link.

Frickin’ power company. In our area, unrelated to tomorrow’s planned outages, the power was out all day until just now. Either 1) an incident, or 2) a planned maintenance outage without any warning. Cleaned out the refrigerator -- it was up to about 65 degrees, but I don’t know for how long.

One of my coworkers lives in Simi Valley and had her power cut this afternoon so crews could replace rotted cross-beams on the power pole in her backyard. I have no idea when or if, power was restored.
