The fact that -- this far into the Wuhan Lung Gleet crisis -- one still cannot get what I would deem accurate info is a serious problem. I ain’t holding my breath, but when this is past us, there should be a fearsome reckoning for all the Americans playing politics in re this issue. Media, politicans, pundits, bureaucrats (and bureaucracies).
(There probably won’t be, but IMHO there really should be.)
I’m much more angry than I am scared, which is probably the healthiest reaction for me, personally. (Since the anger at least allows me to get up every morning and function fairly adequately.)
Nothing against the average schmuck in China, but I hope our country, along with the rest of the world -- curb-stomps their government…with extreme prejudice.
As X noted last night from her prairie redoubt, there is a weird vibe in the air even out here in Ventura County. My mood, never the most optimistic, is steadily becoming worse. Stir crazy is part of it, but there’s that feeling of more dread to come. And like you, Fatwa, a lot of anger.
I can’t say the isolation is getting to me more than the normal isolation up here. I will say that church, and church meetings and church activities and visits with church friends were a welcome respite that I miss.
But I was already used to being isolated more or less.
One thing that is different is the “comfort food” eating. Trying to make sure it is balanced enough. Trying to make myself cook real food.
On that note, I’m cooking some soup today, some time. Something vaguely Mexican that has become a sort of staple for us.
I can’t vouch for their efficacy, but I ordered two packs, one for me and one for CFM (ten masks in all). I will spray them with Lysol spray after each use and wait till they dry. FYI, if you use Lysol, the directions say to wait at least 10 minutes after spraying before wiping down a surface; for a mask, just let it dry.
Hi Jerry!
Thanks for the link and the advice re: Lysol. I hope everyone is doing well in your part of Bountiful and that you all stay safe and healthy.
I’ve started wearing a mask when I go shopping, but we don’t have that many cases here yet. maybe 10 in the whole county. (that we know of)
I guess every little bit helps. The main thing about reusing a mask is just time, But A little disinfectant probably would help. We have one small box, so we’re reusing them in rotation when we have to. And sanitizing them, same as you are.
It may help. I have pretty bad ADD, so I feel like I can’t be trusted to remember not to touch my face, but I do wash my hands frequently now at work, when I go out anywhere, and get back home. I have some sanitizer in the car.
When it comes to buying milk and stuff like that, I buy enough where I don’t have to go out very often. I also have a good amount of powered milk which we’ll start using if we decide to stop going out at all. Right now, in our area, the danger is pretty low.
Made another market run -- the “next two weeks are going to be the worse-stay home” media mantra has worked its way on me. Just went to buy some fresh meat and dairy -- enough to get us through the next week while leaving our canned and frozen foods alone. Figure we got enough supplies on hand to get through the next month+ under current conditions.
Dv8: do you guys like chicken? I got some boneless chicken thighs coated with mayo and breadcrumbs in the oven now -- takes maybe 10 minutes to prepare; 20 minutes to cook. Easy and good meal.
Mrs Sven is making a run out to the local farm to get veggies. Good for her to get out of the house.
Chicken is good. I’ve got a bunch of thighs and breasts in the freezer. I’ve mostly been making soup though, That sounds good though: Breaded with mayo. Any other spices? Just wondering what your thoughts are.
Parmesan cheese with the breadcrumbs if you have it -- usually for me it’s just some Italian seasoning and garlic mixed in with the mayo. 425 degrees for about 20 minutes. 165 internal temp -- cover with foil and let rest for 5-10 minutes.
Every time this fake hate BS happens, it makes it harder for any (probably very few) actual victims of *actual* (rather rare) hate. Here’s the whole country crying “wolf” over and over again:
Note that we’re pretty safe here in “flyover country.” Only one instance in our state.
It’s almost as though fake hate dwarfs real hate.
One of these reports could even be from my Dad. After he died, I believe he may have moved to one of the coastal cities and started voting democrat. Maybe he’s making these kind of reports now too.
It almost looks like most are in liberal Democrat areas. Funny that MAGA hat types would feel bolder about abusing liberals when they are a minority in a liberal area than when they are a majority in a conservative area, or is that just geographics?
Evening swoosh-by Gerbilinos, and thanks for all the comestible ideas.
I decided that I’d got for Teh Dumb today and popped “Tag” into the Blu-Ray. It’s dumb, low-brow humor that makes me giggle. So that was a good thing.
And ‘den!
Fatwa long ago posted a catfishing story that I always remember because, hey, your don’t run across phrasing like “a ring-tailed lemur on a crank binge” very often. And the story still makes me cry laughing. But I never Googled an image of a Gar because the description in the story was enough for my imagination
… and then I’m scrolling through FB … and I see this:
That there is an Alligator Gar clocking in at 218#.
Yeah, it looks meaner than a gator. Any inclinations I may have had or even begun to have about swimming @ Lake Sommerville are done.
:: shudder ::
X_LA, I’ve been meaning to mention how much I miss hearing about Garret’s projects and exploits as well as his wonderful creations. I’m longing for dv8 to “meet” him through your tales.

Censorship is bad, m’kay? Self-censorship is far worse. I/we don’t censor here at Teh Squeak. Feel free to express yourself in your own words -- always.
Thanks, Jerry, for being a good person, a good friend, and a Good Gerbil ® -- and for giving us this space in which to share our lives. You really are a treasure.
Sunday greetin’s, GN!

HI, Fatwa -- happy Sunday, GN.
Must think on this.
A blessed Palm Sunday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!
Prayers that this experience becomes a cause for reflection and a return to our founding principles.
Echoing that, Paddy.
Thanks Paddy, we’ll do our online churching today.
I can’t say the isolation is getting to me more than the normal isolation up here. I will say that church, and church meetings and church activities and visits with church friends were a welcome respite that I miss.
But I was already used to being isolated more or less.

It can be difficult to maintain a sense of normalcy in distinctly abnormal times.
I also think that being able to chat on the wheel has been a wonderful thing for both of us. We are so glad to be back. So grateful.
And we are thankful to have you both back!
Echoing Paddy. Again. Becoming a habit.
Hi everyone. Greetings from beautiful Bountiful. For those concerned about getting a face mask, I just got this from snowjoe.com:

Hi, Sven, Paddy dv8 and Jerry!
Thanks for the linky, Jerry.
Agreed!
Paddy…addy…addy…addy…addy… 😉
Fatwa your awesome graphic inspired me to search for the map below.
Every time this fake hate BS happens, it makes it harder for any (probably very few) actual victims of *actual* (rather rare) hate. Here’s the whole country crying “wolf” over and over again:
https://www.fakehatemap.com/
And those are just the ones that have been identified. Who knows how many fake hate scumbags got away with it?!
Being a victim is a new badge of honor.
This looks similar to another map. Hmmmm… I wonder what these regions have in common???
It’s almost as though Leftism is a virus. Just sayin….
It almost looks like most are in liberal Democrat areas. Funny that MAGA hat types would feel bolder about abusing liberals when they are a minority in a liberal area than when they are a majority in a conservative area, or is that just geographics?
Or maybe it is just easier to get away with a fake claim about MAGA hat hate crimes in liberal controlled areas?
So I made this and put it on 4chan.org/pol/
They’re gonna call me a “newf*g” because I really don’t know the protocols there and that was my first post.
I also put it on thedonald.win
honestly probably any population map would match these, but it’s still funny.
Nice to see you, Sir! This, apparently is what I’m doing with my time today. heh.

wow, I never knew there was such a thing.
