It has become readily apparent to me we have effectively no leadership worth a shit at the state and local level throughout much of this country.
Not good. Not good at all.
I must give very grudging credit to ATL Mayor Bottoms and APD Chief Shields (yes, really) for doing an acceptable job containing chaos thus far. But I don’t know how much longer that’ll last.
Sorta glad the kids are in Puerto Rico right now than one of their last two rentals in Atlanta, given the areas of town they lived in here.
Also glad that Larryville and the immediately adjoining towns have generally been quiet.
Sadly amusing image of a weed store on S. Broadway in downtown L.A.:
Happy first Monday of the last week of school, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven, and Fatwa!
In Huntington Beach shop owners boarded up their stores prior to the demonstrations and their was no destruction. The HB police do have lots of experience with large crowds, though -- from surf contests to the annual Independence Day parade (which for a few years included a night-time drunken riot). Santa Monica, it appears, was not so lucky.
Yes. Safer at home and all that. it’s even before the streetlights come on.
Had to laugh while following some twitter feed about a planned protest in Van Nuys. The teweeters were all incensed cuz Van Nuys is a poor area of POCs, has POC-owned businesses, home to a lot of “allies” and illegals. Don’t protest there cuz it will bring in ICE and the potential to damage “allies,” so go to a richer part of the Valley. But of course, it’s all so “peaceful.”
Apparently, they’ve changed their destination to Northridge and CSUN.
There were protests in San Clemente, as well, but the police didn’t have to break those up. Just peaceful gathering.
Apparently the window above my school’s office in Anaheim (we’re ground floor) was busted. I’m guessing the director of the school will be working from home for the rest of the day (he’s about the only one in the office since the Wuhan Flu).
Ah, Van Nuys. Home of the Bali Hai Hotel. Home of the disclaimer, “Not responsible for fire, theft, injury or death.
A college friend lived at the the other end of the street the hotel was on the corner of.
An interesting thing is how organized these protests are. Not just the looters who are working in teams with drivers and looters, but the protesters themselves. I’ve watched several incidents where a crowd of a 100 or more all turned and moved in one direction or another and not in response to police or other prompting.
Several of them seem to have scouts either on skateboards or bicycles that appear to go out and collect intelligence and then return back.
What’s missing too compared to 1992 is the anger and rage. The amount of physical violence is incredibly low -- these aren’t roving gangs of criminals looking to assault and kill…at least not yet. And the fires, outside of police vehicles, appear more strategic designed to pull resources from one location to another. This isn’t, at least from what I’ve seen in LA, a “burn this bitch to the ground” type of riot. I’d guess it’s 40% opportunistic, 40% “we have to do something” because of our white privilege, and 20% committed to the BLM movement.
I read that Michael Baden’s autopsy results contradict the Minneapolis ME’s findings. I watched Baden during the Lana Clarkson murder trial as part of Phil Spector’s defense team, and it seems like he was sanctioned or reprimanded by the court for hiding evidence or lying under oath. I’m not putting too much faith in what he has to say.
Good morning, GN -- happy Monday!
Happy June and Happy Monday, GN!

Good morning, Fatwa -- didn’t see you earlier. Glad things are calm in your part of the world.
Sorry I didn’t see you earlier, either.

Jeebus…just read that L.A. County has an 18.00 hrs. curfew again today. And several cities there have a 16.00 hrs. curfew today.
Such stellar leadership; let’s have more gummint.
Fffffffuuuuuu….
Wooooooooooooow. I just hope someone doesn’t get the bright idea and play “The Purge” siren …

Drive by:: good morning Gerbils. We’re off to see the “Wizzard.”
(For headache stuff)
I wonder, but not much, if anthem protests will return when pro sports finally makes its return. One more reason not to watch.
Hi, TeX and dv8!
Hope things go well with The Migraine Medico. (And a “contactless” hug to Harper from both of us.) 😉
This provided a sorely-needed bit of levity:
Happy June, EveryGerbillyBody!
Jesú Christo, WTH? Huntington Beach?!? My grandparents and aunts and uncles lived there for cryin’ out loud!
L.A.’s going “Demolition Man” faster than I’d anticipated. Sheesh!
Hey! TeX!

The SFV is peaceful so far, but I think Trump may have just thrown fuel on the fire. Or not. Who knows anymore.
Funny though, a liberal non-gun owning friend is quietly asking us about our firearms. No we aren’t loaning any out --
Offer to accompany said friend to a gun store and comfort them as they jump through all of the hoops that they happily erected.
Looting beginning in Van Nuys and the 405 is blocked off by protesters at Wilshire.

Holy cow…that disclaimer! Drove past that place many times; Sepulveda south of Roscoe, IIRC.
Hope drivers on the 405 put up with ZERO shit.

I think intersectionality is taking a few blows as the looting is occurring in a lot of areas where the people consider themselves allies of all POC.

Interesting. Thanks for the update and insight, Sven!
Baden’s wife was part of Spector’s defense team -- did anyone really think he was going to say anything that contradicted Spector’s story?
Well either things are settling out here in SoCal, or the A Team took a break and sent out the JV crew tonight.
F-in Dell POS………
Something tells me that Indian tech support will not be sufficient to ease your troubles.
I’ll tell you the whole story tomorrow morning……………..
