Good morning! I love the wee little chain around the Geico knight’s neck.

Are you all ready for another day beneath the benevolent sky of our great country? Thought I’d start it off with something close to my heart and let Fatwa follow up with the appropriate outrageousness with which we usually start our day.

When I was just a girl I memorized this. I’m sure it had a lot to do with my early decision to marry an American! That choice was made when I was about ten years old.

An American’s Creed

“I do not choose to be a common man. It is my right to be uncommon—if I can. I seek opportunity—not security. I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled and dulled by having the state look after me. I want to take the calculated risk; to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed. I refuse to barter incentive for a dole. I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence; the thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of utopia. I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout. I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat. It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid; to think and act for myself, enjoy the benefit of my creations, and to face the world boldly and say, this I have done. All this is what it means to be an American.” --Dean Alfange, 1952

I hope you’re all well! I’ve missed you…

Yesterday afternoon, we went to our City Hall to sign a petition to recall Gavin Newsom. When we got there, a protest and counter protest was already in full swing. One side was the BLM/anarchist team going up against the Trump/blueliners. Our side was mostly older, but enthusiastic with American flags, signs, and Trump gear. The other side was younger, louder, and mad about a variety of things: racism, police brutality, and demanding the resignation of a local politician for saying mean things. Maybe 125 people total with our side outnumbered maybe 3:2. A dozen or so police off to the side.

Signed the petition and stayed for entertainment value. Good to see pushback from our side.

Good morning, Harper!, and Sven!

Harper -- thank you for posting that. I don’t recall ever reading it before.

Sven -- I agree in re pushback from our side. It’s been way too long.

We’ve had a backyard bird feeder of one type or another for many years and its location has changed from time to time. In it’s current location we attract quite the number and variety of birds. The birds on the feeder range in size from finches to mourning doves. When the mourning doves fly onto the feeder, the smaller birds scatter. We also get hawks and the occasional peregrine falcon (but not on the feeder). Lately we’ve had a new addition -- a band-tailed pigeon. The band-tailed pigeon is a native, but usually not seen in our area and much nicer than the typical urban rat-with-wings pigeon. It’s also significantly larger than the mourning doves and looks quite silly sitting on the tray of the bird feeder. Well, one band-tailed pigeon became two. Then there were three. Soon after, there were five. Yesterday we counted ten pigeons -- four managed to fit on the feeder, two were in a large pot nearby, two were on our fence (waiting for a turn at the feeder), and two more were on the roof of our neighbor’s shed. I’ll have to see if I can get a picture.
