Fatwa: how do you handle being a member of a religion where everyone hates you? I ask this because I recently became a member of one of those, myself.

well… that was nicely expressed.

Nite nite Mac. Thanks for being there for me and for all of us.

Fatwa Arbuckle: Misanthropologist

Happy Caturday, Wheelizens!

Hi, dv8!

Fatwa: how do you handle being a member of a religion where everyone hates you?

Short answer: Being armed and determined that what happened to Dad’s family won’t happen to me.

Longer answer: Having a low tolerance for said hatred and no problem calling it out when I deem it appropriate. (I often wish that Joooos had a reputation for violence similar to Our Friends The Mohammedans.)

This is complicated by the reality of having people in my life whom I genuinely care about who belong to institutions which have a long history of Jew hate. And I have a hard time wrapping my brain around the fact that people I consider to be decent humans can affiliate themselves with such institutions.

Also, sarcasm is my sword and cynicism is my shield.

And I will not be boarding any cattle car or other conveyance if they start trying to haul Jews off. (However, I will do my best to take as many of the bastards with me as I can.)

LambiePieK has a different take:

“I’m a great person. I’m a good friend. I have a strong but not inflexible moral code. I know I am fabulous and good. And anyone who disagrees, particularly based on something as private as religion -- which I don’t push on anyone -- is unworthy of my regard. It’s a circular argument in its way but that’s how I deal.”

Hope something in the preceding is helpful to you.

wow! Thank you both for weighing in on that.

I didn’t realize how much it would bother me. Well… Some things, I expected but some things took me by surprise. I’ll just leave it at that. But I pretty much like all of your points. And BrendaK’s.

I will say that I was kind of surprised that certain Tripple K types consider LDS members to be “just another type of Joooooooo.”

There were never 6 million of us to slaughter in the early days, because there were only a few thousand of us, but there certainly was quite a bit of slaughtering of small towns and settlements.

And oddly… it was ultimately about a similar thing--that thing being envy. We were known to be hard working, and, as such, were more successful than our neighbors, so I’m told.

(I doubt I personally have the work ethic of any early settler no matter what faith they were, to be honest : )

Happy Caturday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, dv8, and Fatwa!

dv8 -- good luck resetting your sleep cycle!

It’s already hot and the humidity is 72%. I’m going to try and get my Home Despot and Costco runs done early.

Hey Paddy! I wish those places were close to me. Home Despot is like 30 mins away, and Costco is an hour. The closest sam’s club is about an hour as well, but the other direction.

Costco has a Microwave I want, to replace our ailing, nearly broken one. I haven’t gotten around to making the trip yet.

Well on resetting the schedule:

So far so good. If I can hold out till at least the early or mid afternoon, I should be fine.

I really am feeling my age this morning, in some ways. Although not in others.

Last night whilst keeping Harper company, I spent a bit too much time answering and writing posts on my phone.

With no reading glasses.

I had such eyestrain that I had double vision in both eyes which took an hour to subside to its normal level of blurriness. Which it is at now. Everything basically looks normal again, but I find I wish I had proper indoor glasses. My closeup vision is so bad now that even the TV I’m using to write this is blurry at about 8-10 feet away from me. 20 feet to infinity is fine though. But everything in the house is basically in the 10 foot or less range. I think a pair of progressive lenses might be nice for indoors.

I normally use glasses or squint, but tonight, I guess because it was very dark, I didn’t (think I) need (ed) them. Hence the eye strain.

I guess I’m reaching my limit of staying awake. I went to the pharmacy and put in a bunch of refills--didn’t do anything else while at the store. Went home. Ate some more fish soup. (which this time has fennel in it as part of the onion/vegetable component)

Been hanging out in bed just propped up watching videos with Harper. So I could remain awake for a while longer.

I think this is about it, though.

nite nite GN.
