Fatwa Arbuckle: Misanthropologist

Happy Katana Puppeh Friday, Wheelizens!

Apparently, the virtual DNC convention has been a shitshow; I doubt the RNC’s will be much better.

Still no word re when JimCo will get our final payment; thus far, we have not been informed of any punch list items or other issues despite the fact we finished the job two weeks ago.

I’ve prepared a Breach Of Contract Notice and will ask Jim if he’d like me to send it today; I suspect it might get their attention.

Fark them for putting us in this position; up until now, I thought we had a cordial professional relationship with them despite all of the “speed bumps” we had to negotiate during the course of the project.

To say I’m pissed-off would be a massive understatement.

BBL.

This is just terrible, Fatwa. Is a countersuit possible to maybe collect some $ for this absurdity?

That sucks, Fatwa. I had clients on monthly support contracts that required multiple phone calls and reminders of interest penalties to get them to cough up the dough, but I couldn’t afford to lose them. You’re in a different situation and there’s no excuse for their behavior.

If I were the RNC, on at least one speech I’d have the wall of monitors like the DNC and just duplicate one outrageous Trump supporter in different outfits and disguises in each one. And then watch the media go bonkers with their “fact checking”.

Has anyone definitively said that Biden’s speech last night was live and not taped? It seems odd that he’d do it inside the building when he had a live audience of a few hundred people outside that he then strolled out to meet after he was done.

I haven’t seen anything that stated it was live, but I’ve seen plenty that said it was taped.

Happy Who’s a Good Pupper? Friday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!

We’ve got a new hire that we’re wondering if we made a mistake in hiring. She’s already exhibited problems with responsiveness one family has complained that she failed to return phone calls and send out information when promised. I had a check-in meeting scheduled with her yesterday morning and she didn’t show and didn’t respond to my IM. It turns out her internet went out and she contacted my boss, but not me and didn’t ask my boss to let me know. We rescheduled for first thing this morning, but she sent me an email late last night saying her husband has to replace a piece of hardware that went out. If she’s not going to work out, we’d like to cut our losses, but she’s a POC and we need to go by the book and use an incremental discipline approach. Meanwhile, the start of school is rapidly approaching.

It only took teh bestest place ever a year to get rid of our POC that exhibited similar behavior. Good luck.

A bit of irony. The thankfully over DNC convention harped on how Trump was “destroying the country”. I kind of thought that that was what they wanted.

My hat’s off to you Sven, tuning in at all.

Fatwa,
A katana-wielding puppeh might not be a bad idea as a payment negotiator. ‘Course dogs and “focus” can be mutually exclusive.

I’ve been asking around the neighborhood for any RC toys that have lost their shine; I think giving Ollie something to chase (other than cattle) might be a good thing. G_d knows she’s got the stamina. And if she tires, even a little, it’d give the big boy a break.

I do start Monday at the Auto Shop. I think my interview was less than ten minutes and ended with a handshake. Just like the old days.
:: sigh ::
Better pay than I expected and he’s a nice guy. So that’ll be good.

I’ve been doing the scribe training/screening, and I’ve been going through the modules pretty successfully … until now. Now it’s getting the info in real-time.
I just don’t type that fast, and I’m finding that after years of looking for relevant information in haystacks, switching to describing the entire haystack is giving me a brain cramp.
I’ll finish it out just so they and I are clear that I’m probably better dealing with static information. The fail is depressing.

But hey, that Pharmacy Technician in Training certificate should get issued any day now. So I’ve have that in my back pocket if need be.

Paddy and Sven, also sorry you’re having “unnecessary!!!” problems with cow-workers. What a joy.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

My typing sucks as well -- always has. I could never do the scribe thing. When I do get that task, I take hard copy notes and transcribe later. Usually with two fingers.

Our POC, the worse Director I’ve ever been associated with, was let go in February. She did tick all the boxes tho: womyn, POC, lesbian, married, ex-military, and pregnant. And short, too. I’m sure she walked away with at least year’s salary and that was probably around $225,000.

That’s the funny thing: I can use all the correct abbreviations when I’m hand writing -- goes right out the window on the keyboard.
I knew I was wired weird, but sheesh!

Do you subvocalize them? That’s what I’ve found works for me. OTOH, just typing what I see, without any thought and without reading it, results in faster typing with fewer errors -- at least for me.

Congratulations, TeX!!!11!! That’s wonderful news!
I can type at about 40 wpm, but that doesn’t mean I would be any good at transcribing. Like you, it would give me a brain cramp.

According to recent data, my county may make it off the Governor’s watch list on Saturday. If so, then schools could re-open after Labor Day (assuming the metrics continue their downward trend). As far as re-opening other sectors of the economy:

“I wish I could tell you (which sectors) the guidelines the governor is going to issue next week would speak to,” [County Health Care Agency Director] Chau said during a press conference Thursday, adding local health officials will be in talks with the state sometime in the next few days ahead of the expected announcement by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Which sounds an awfully lot like this:

Reading the nightly riot reports, these guys are so predictable in their approach and tactics, it’s amazing to me that the police have not developed tactics to counter them. Or are their hands that tied?

Fatwa Arbuckle: Misanthropologist

Drive-by:

Hiya, Sven, Paddy and TeX!!1!

Cheers for the sympathy; it’s a sh¡tty situation.

TeX --

Congratters on the job! (And hope you won’t need that Pharmacy Technician in Training cert.)

Got an email a few minutes ago that JimCo has (allegedly) scored a $224K flat roof job in Encino; probably won’t get the contract until next week. Since JimCo will be financing 50% of the job, I won’t see any income from it until next year…but “mail box money” doesn’t suck.

Alas, it also means another 5-6 week trip to L.A. Fortunately, the accommodations at JimCo HQ are pretty comfy.

And this Encino job should be a lot less stressful than the last one. (Yeah…famous last words…)

Huh. California is closing on 600 fires burning right now. Most in NorCal. Somehow I’m sure it’s Trump’s fault.

Doesn’t bode well for the next two months when the winds pick up.

Mrs. Paddy and I took a vacation last fall to the NorCal wine country -- we had to leave a day early because of wildfires. We planned to go back this spring -- we had to cancel due to COVID-19. Now we’re back at the fire stage. I must think on this.

I remember last year I went back and looked at everyone’s old comments on this new wheel, here. Rabbit’s last comment was that she was going on a trip and then nothing after. Kinda worrisome.

Last month or so, Dv8 was reminiscing about the olden days and the original DHD users. It got me wondering what was up with Abbeyweb, so I signed back up to the mailing list which is still active. Not a lot of traffic and I haven’t posted, don’t really plan to, but it seems more mellow than it used to be. I read one email from a woman I’ve always liked and think I met once, so she’s still there, but I didn’t recognize any of the other names. Will probably lurk for a month or so and then unsubscribe.
