So much crayzee in teh news from yesterday alone it kind o’ makes my head spin. (And I expect moar today in response.)
(Un)fortunately, have a lot of JimCo tasks today; guess I’ll try and get caught-up on current events over the weekend. (When I anticipate further insanity / chaos and am grateful we live in a relatively quiet ‘burb.)
The protests/rallies in our part of town have been loud, stupid, and mostly non-violent. But yes -- caution whenever around any of these folks is always warranted.
Happy Friday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!
Had an interview with a candidate for my department yesterday late afternoon. She was a student teacher for us during the school shut-down at the end of last school year, so we have some idea of her capabilities. She’s far from what we need, but appears trainable and the other applicants are also fresh out of school and don’t have any online teaching experience at all. We’ll make her an offer and work extensively with her to get her up to speed.
In the Good News™ department, Teh Older got moved from Intern (30 hours/week) to Temporary Full Time (40 hours/week). The move also comes with an 80% raise.
Whatever it was, they’ve lifted the stay inside and hide order. Mrs Sven says she heard a gunshot, but no details from the authorities are forthcoming.
The bestest place ever is giving us the rest of the day off and so my 3-day weekend has turned into a 3.5 day weekend.
Last night we got spontaneous, at Mrs Sven’s urging, and hit our local dive bar -- you know the place, Fatwa. The owner has been forced to set up a an ugly tarp/tent in her parking lot in order to keep going. Last night tho was one of the best night’s out that we’ve had in the past several months. A good crowd was on-hand, mostly maskless and not maintaining the correct social distancing, and we had a long conversation with the owner’s son, an Army guy up from El Paso who has been helping her out. For a couple of hours we enjoyed being amongst our tribe, drank, tipped heavily, and felt normal.
Good for you!
I got a call from a friend along those lines, “Please, come to dinner at our house next week -- we need to feel normal again! If even for an evening!”
It’ll be good -- provided I can get Mr. TeX to commit.
What TeX said! We try to go out periodically and hate that not only do we have to think about where we want to go/what we want to eat, but also “Do we have to eat in the parking lot?”
Well, my second week is over, and not one Dread Pirate Roberts comment. I even got a note to the effect that I was doing a good job one morning. So far, so good.
But the bestest part of the day, oddly enough, has come from a weather app I downloaded last night. Carrot.
Dark Sky had been my go-to, but it was bought by Apple and disappeared from Android phones August 1st.
This thing has attitude adjustments: friendly, snarky, homicidal and overkill (may include profanity). It’s a crackup. Current conditions? “You want better weather? Make it worth my fucking while.” (I think we’ve gotten over an inch of rain between 2:15 and now.)
It’s rumbling a lot though, so the lights are low, the ricotta with a side of Melatonin has been handed out to the pups, but from the radar, I think we have a bit more drizzlin’ to do.
The rally was a bust. Maybe 15 young people on a street corner with a BLM flag and a bullhorn. Maybe one black person. Stopped for a little bit, but with the heat out they were mostly mailing it in. No counter protesters -- no police presence to speak of.
This is a local group that is intent on telling the rest of us how racist we all really are and how tough they had it growing up in this racist community.
Happy Three-Day-Weekend Friday, Wheelizens!

============================
Happy Friday boys and girls! Good morning, Fatwa.
There’s a BLM rally today locally in honor of Jacob Blake -- thinking about taking it in.
I know you’ll be cautious and exercise situational awareness around them violent, revolutionary goons, but kindly be careful, man.
A rally in honor of a rapist and son of a raging anti-semite? Well, at least BLM is letting us know what they value.
Be safe out there.
Hey guys and dolls.

On my way to sleep after doing the big route. Harper went with me this morning. Nite nite.
Hi dv8! Sleep well!
Rest well, you two.

Good that they didn’t waste any time and “appears trainable” is encouraging. And congrats to Teh Older!
Hear, hear!
This is my morning.
Ooof! I’m sorry, Sven!
A rookie mistake on my part.
An alert from law enforcement -- barricaded suspect in a home down the hill maybe 1/4 mile from us -- no other details but to stay inside.
Stay safe, Sven!

At least it’s over.

Congratulations on making it through your second week! I’m not sure I want a homicidal weather report.
Are you sure? Current conditions: “This is all Hillary Clinton’s fault.”
That’s perfectly acceptable. I thought homicidal might be something like, “You keep complaining about this weather and I swear I’m gonna cut you!”
