Awwwwwww!
One time my dad was in the hospital and their parrot was reacting poorly in his absence. The vet suggested holding the phone near the cage so it could hear my dad’s voice. It worked.

Yesterday’s thread pic reminded me of our lone boy -- he desperately wants the scent of the outside air, but at our current temps, he’s not willing to hang out outside. I’ve got one window cracked just a leetle bit for him.

Good Sunday Morning, GN!

Glad to hear it’s a slow but appreciable healing for your eyeballs. That’s a goodness. So will it be if you can hook up with Fatwa on his next (less stressful ::finger crossed::) trip out.

The Southern California Association of Governments has come up with their new housing plan to be imposed on the region.

Aspirational AND nutty, but typical. And it’s all about the money. City governments are looking for the reward that comes from just building the units. (Although the little burg we used to live in made some loan deal that’ll consume any profits were they to put in a million units -- any year for the next 15 years or so.)
And everything Fatwa said too.

DV8: sounds like you’ve got a good doc. That’s a goodness.

Other than that, I got nothing.

A blessed Sabbath, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, TeX!

One of the things that I like about living where I do, is that even when it gets hot, it will always cool down at night. Somebody didn’t get the message last night. The low temp, at 4 this morning, was 79° F. By 8 this morning it was back up to 83° F. No. Thank. You.

I’m a baseball fan. Not one of those who follows all the players and knows all the stats, but someone who has a favorite team, likes to watch that team play, and enjoys going to games. It seems that MLB has been doing everything possible to lose me as a fan. Fortunately my team hasn’t taken part in the BLM foolishness, but watching games being played in empty stadiums, with canned crowd noise just isn’t the same. They’ve also taken this opportunity to implement two new rules that I fear will become permanent. Both are designed to make for quicker games. The first is that if a game goes into extra innings, the team at bat starts with a runner on 2nd. It’s not too hard to hit a sacrifice bunt to advance the runner to third, then all it takes is a routine single to score. It’s like the NFL’s overtime rules -- stupid. The second change applies to double-headers. Instead of the usual 9 innings, each game only lasts 7 innings. That makes a huge difference in pitching. Both of these changes appear to be for the benefit of broadcasters and not for the fans.

Sucks, don’t it?

Around here, even in the Wal-Mart parking lot, you see people stop, turn and appreciate the briefest of breezes from the Northeast.

I’ll bet more than half have the same thought I do when those breezes hit: “If only it felt like this ALL summer …”

I’m grilling some chicken for dinner tonight. It’s okay -- it’s cooled down to 90°F.

110°F here -- I stepped outside for a moment and immediately forgot why.

We’ve had an interesting sight in our backyard this afternoon. We normally get a lot of birds enjoying our bird feeder and our fountain, but this was different. There were a good two dozen birds sitting in the grass, in the shade of our pine tree. Some would periodically fly off to the fountain for a drink, then to the feeder, then back to the grass. Normally they hang out in the trees, but I guess the grass was cooler.

So it’s still hot out -- the SFV hit a record 121 degrees this afternoon. Rolling blackouts anticipated tonight and SoCal Edison is alerting us to expect what they call out here a Public Safety Power Shutoff over the next couple of days due to Santa Ana wind conditions.

Yeah, September!

I hope your area skips the “can’t upgrade our system to prevent fires, so we’ll shut off your power during a heat wave” foolishness.
