Morning Gerbils. So sorry to hear about Sven’s friend’s brother. Also very sorry to hear about conservative tree house. It’s been a long while since I’ve been there. It’s a great site. And well… at least they have a couple of months to migrate the site. That’s not the usual deplatforming that people get on other social media. Youtube, for example, just ignores their strike system and just takes you down for wrongthink when they want to deplatform you.

This is why BitChute and other alternative media are so important.

StyxHexenHammer666 started doing bitchute exclusives last year, and also started mirroring everything to bichute, brighteon, minds, library, and many other platforms around 3 years ago. He is currently the biggest creator on BitChute, and he is still on youtube. He has never monitized his videos, so he has a bit more latitude, yet still, he has no idea when he will be axed from youtube.

He says he would love for PewDiePie or another big creator to move over from youtube to bitchute or another alt tech site. It would have a snowball effect. Leafy went to StoryFire, but he hasn’t been posting that much either way. He took a 2 year hiatus from youtube, but when he came back, he pretty much said he wanted to get banned. Which he did. But so far, he’s only made maybe three videos on storyfire. Leafy had 5 million subs on youtube.

Anyway, Styx has half a million subs on youtube; yet he also has 100K subs on bitchute--and he does exclusives there, plus another 100K or more on the other platforms he is on. If youtube deplatforms him, he’ll still be widely syndicated.

People that are exclusively on youtube are just SOL. It’s relatively easy to backup all your stuff on one or more of these alt tech platforms.

Anyway… Now wordpress.com is a deplatformer, I guess. They had stayed pretty much out of the fray, but are now weighing in on wrongthink. You can still use wordpress.org and self host, or host on a free speech friendly platform.

Still, it’s too bad, because wordpress.com is a pretty good vehicle and you get subscribers just by being in that universe. People that hosted their own blogs had trouble reaching new subscribers. Although there are plugins that help with that, by integrating with the rest of the wordpress universe.

Still, it just seems evil that word press is doing this. They should be ashamed.

My old poetry site is on wordpress. I guess I should move it, as my nom de plume was very outspoken against marxism. If I started up again, they would probably take me down as well. I guess I’ll look into migrating or self-hosting.

Another Contested Election Monday already?

Hi, dv8!

Sven --

Condolences to you and Mrs. Sven.

==================

Read last night on Twitter about CTH being de-platformed. Never spent a lot of time there but my impression is there were some smart, thoughtful folks on that site.

Still, it just seems evil that word press is doing this. They should be ashamed.

Cancel culture, ironically, is in need of cancellation.

What the hell has happened to the idea that the remedy for objectionable speech is more speech?

How do I get a refund????

Review the TOS you agreed to. 👿

Marxisim happened. In this country, in 1914.

Now you guys understand why I was talking about BitChute and Gab and Slug, and stuff last year : )

What I wonder though is how long all these new mediums /platforms will stay committed to freedom of speech?

hard to say. If they’re centralized, it seems to rely on the personalities and character of the leaders. Now, that being said, there are decentralized systems starting to appear. Decentralized web and chat and video are starting to be rolled out.

You can now have a web page that is out there for people to see, but it’s hosted nowhere, and everywhere. Kinda cool. using tech similar to bitTorrent.

Good morning Dv8 and Fatwa; thanks for your kind words -- happy Monday, GN!

I should have read the fine print, Fatwa.

Not quite sure where CTH will end up, but based on their history, I’m sure they will continue on and that’s a good thing.

Happy Apocalyptic Monday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, dv8, Fatwa, and Sven!

Sven -- I’m sorry for your loss. May God grant your friend the peace he was unable to achieve in this life.

dv45 -- I see more people on Facebook talking about migrating to alternative platforms. This year may just have provided the impetus people need to make the jump.

Yes paddy, I’m hoping so. It’s pretty hard to get anyone’s attention. Fox is swinging left. I just got a couple of 70 somethings I know to watch Tim Pool.

(You should all watch Tim, by the way. He is a very efficient news aggregator, and a cool dude.)

Also “Gab Trends” is a very good web news aggregator if you don’t want to watch video. It’s similar to what drudge used to do, except there’s no algorithmic manipulation. Just, whatever is most viewed rises to the top. It’s been good enough lately even for Harper to endorse it. She’s been using it for her morning news.

Once again sorry to hear about conservative tree house. I’m glad they have time to migrate.

So CNN is for sale by AT&T. I’m sure it’s worth sh*t. If Trump is out of a job, he should definitely buy it and change it into the T R U M P ! ! ! ! network. He’d probably get all the best people from fox to go over. If not, he should definitely start the TRUMP!!! network. it would be awesome!

Maybe he should have one of his kids do the TRUMP!!! network even if he does end up winning on a photo finish and/or a technicality.

Not sure tho. TRUMP stuff seems to need TRUMP level personality.

Dude is like a wrecking ball.

That’s one of the most astute points I’ve heard in a while: “TRUMP stuff seems to need TRUMP level personality.”

On the culture war front, teh bestest place ever is making a point of acknowledging that this Friday is Transgender Day of Remembrance. No guidance, yet, as to how we are supposed to celebrate it.

I also signed up for a webinar from my professional organization this week. “Show up, Speak up, Shut up: How to be a good ally.” I hope they take questions.

Maybe you could dress in drag then bitch to HR if anyone dares misgender you or expect you to meet cis-heteronormative expectations of gender expression.

Show up, Speak up, Shut up

-- show up when we demand, speak only what we tell you to speak, otherwise shut up.

I hope they take questions.

“If transgender men are real men, then why do they call themselves transgender -- why not just men?”
“If there is an entire spectrum of genders, then why are there only transgender men and transgender women?”
“If gender is just a societal construct, then why does someone need to take hormones and undergo surgery to change their societal construct?”

Sven — I’m sorry for your loss. May God grant your friend the peace he was unable to achieve in this life.

Seconded.
And … um, I don’t even know what to say about The Bestest Place Ever’s Friday remembrance.

Things have been so out of whack since March, some days it harder to deal than others (I’m sure everyone here gets that, too).

BUT, I do have a feel-good story to share in the midst of all the madness.

Last week, I pulled into work, and spotted a Lincoln MKC in the parking lot. Going into the office, there was no write-up on it, but I had a suspicion whose it was because I’d quoted the guy a brake job the week before. When I went to out to get the vehicle information, my suspicions were confirmed because I recognized the VIN.

I called the owner and discovered no, we weren’t doing the brake job, what needed to be done was the re-attachment of his undercarriage shroud. He’d gotten an oil change in College Station, and whatever joint he went to left six of the nine bolts off and the thing dropped during travel and scared him half to death (also almost ripped it in half). o_0 He also mentioned that he traveled up there frequently for cancer treatments and while it wasn’t his *only* ride, it is his best.

I was writing that up and clearing the shop phone of messages, one of which was one that really shouldn’t wait so I passed it to the boss.

Next thing I know, the boss pops his head in the door and tells me if I can source the shroud for $100 or so, just to order it. OK. Well, I can’t. It’s $200+. He tells me to call the owner of the corner grocery store, and let him know what it’ll be. He OKs the cost in a heartbeat. Before I can fully articulate, “Do you want this to be anonymous?” he tells me, “Don’t tell him who paid the bill.”

So the boss and I cook up a BS story about special fasteners that won’t be in until the next morning, and it’ll be a paltry $22 repair bill.

I had his keys on my desk when he showed up the next morning. He introduced himself, and I handed over the keys. He starts to dig into his pocket, and I said, “The community took care of it. You don’t owe us anything.”

I don’t know if he’ll ever find out the extent of the repair, but he accepted the offering with grace and style.

I later thanked the corner store owner for letting me play a small part in it.

Sorry for my extended absence (again), but these weeks are rough. And ‘den having to cook dinner and do various other chores when I get home, I’m toast.

So, Hi EveryGerbillyBody! *mwah!!!!!!* y’all!

Here’s a random story that means nothing:

So last Friday after the Big Route, (yes I’m still doing it) I was so tired I not only forgot to punch out, but had no memory of not having punched out the next day. Usually I’ll remember afterward, so I can fix my time card before it gets processed.

Anyway. people have noted that I tend to dress like an 18 year old black kid, in that I wear loose fitting clothing: sweatpants and my shirts in layers; usually a tee shirt over a long sleeved tee.

Anyway, we got a call from the office that I didn’t punch out on Friday. So I left them a message of my approximate time finished. But I’ll take any excuse these days to go somewhere, because I feel so isolated.

So as I was getting dressed, I was thinking: “You know, I used to wear Levi’s a lot; maybe I should dig them out.” I have everything from 36s to 32s depending on whatever shape I’m in and the state of whatever workout I’m doing--or not doing--at the present time. The pair of 34s on the shelf were perfect, so I wore them.

So here I am wearing Jeans for the first time in a long while. I drive to the office, and found out the bookkeeper already got my message, but I told her the same thing: Namely I’ll take any excuse, these days, to leave the house.

I then went on a drive up dry creek road for a ways. Found there is some kind of trail head, or tourist spot there. Then, I looked for the new Ramen shop in town, but couldn’t positively identify it. I wasn’t planning to stop there. Just find out where it was after having read an article about it.

Then I went home and made… Brunch, I guess. Now I’m writing to all y’all.

There is no unifying theme to this story. But, well… there you are…………

I was tempted to ask Corporate for more details about Friday’s thing, like what we’ll be doing to remember this very important day and what type of greetings would be appropriate, but thought better of it. I’m in a bit of trouble for another question I asked them last week. Best to lie low.
