Morning gerbils. Super long shift yesterday. Harper and I are curled up on the couch watching the current seasons of Lucifer and The Good Place.

Happy curling up.

Caturday salutations, Wheelizens!

Hi, dv45 (and Harper)!

Sven --

Being largely unfamiliar with Alice Cooper’s oeuvre, I’d never heard “Jesse Jane” before you posted it. While it could certainly have been considered “transgressive” when it was released in 2005, I have a sneaking suspicion that by today’s moronic standards, it’s now somehow “transphobic” and/or otherwise problematic.

What a stupid age we live in.

I’m so glad I was raised with an “I don’t give a shit what most people think of me” ethos.

Good morning, GN -- happy last Saturday of Autumn.

I envy you, Fatwa -- there’s a whole world of Alice Cooper for you to discover! Another song that would be problematic today.

Hi, Sven!

I recall that one well, as it hit during the period when I had my morning paper route; I used to listen to WIXY 1260 on my transistor radio with the ouchy earplug while on my rounds.

Up at 5:00 a.m. seven days a week. Plus collecting my money in the early evening every two weeks. IIRC, I pocketed $0.03 for each $0.10 Mon-Sat paper and $0.07 for the $0.25 Sunday papers (which had to be assembled before I could deliver them).

Learned a bit about running a small business from that experience.

Here’s another one that wouldn’t work out quite as intended anymore:

Still under a PUBLIC SAFETY POWER SHUTOFF WARNING. Edison called last night about 10:30 to tell us.

Bah! Hope they don’t pull your plug today.

Don’t see that much wind in your forecast until next Wednesday.

Oh good -- another “wind event” or “fire weather” event to look forward to next week.

This made me laugh: “Deaf actors should play Deaf roles,” said another. “Representation matters. Equality matters. Equity matters. Inclusion matters. Enough is enough.”

Huh?

What?

Did you just say something?

JFC.

What in the hell is the point of “acting” if only “authentic” people can be cast in particular roles?

Bingo.

Ironically, this clip of Bing Crosby from “Holiday Inn” in blackface has been colorized:

Now that’s some Grade A Prime irony, right there. Too bad it’s wasted on the folks that did it.

Meanwhile, it’s okay for trans Elliott Page to play a cis-gender character.

Happy Caturday, Gerbil Nation! Now with moar ROUS’s!
Good morning, dv8, Harper, Fatwa, and Sven!

dv8 -- happy curling!

Today is the Great Christmas Cookie Bake of 2020. This year, instead of delivering plates of cookies to our neighbors -- who may be afraid to eat them -- Mrs. Paddy will give out bags of cookies to the homeless who shower at her church on Monday. It’s probably been awhile since they had home-baked cookies.

Meanwhile, we have to figure out how Christmas Eve dinner is going to work this year, as well as how many people we’ll be having for Christmas dinner, so I can go out and buy the prime rib.

Well, when you can’t eat at your local restaurants, you have to liven things up some how.

When the Chinese flu panic first set in, Trump sent the USNS Mercy hospital ship to LA. It docked and over like a month treated/saw less than a 100 patients and then was sent on its way. Now that SoCal is at zero available ICU bed, where’s the Mercy? You would think that maybe Gavin could ask for it again?

I did finally find out how many ICU beds CA has added since this thing started: 536 or a 7% increase. Good job, Gavin. You really gave it your all. http://www.danielgreenfield.org/2020/12/california-dems-shut-down-state-over.html

The USNS Mercy is at its home port of San Diego.

Is it being used for domestic medical care? I couldn’t find anything online about it.

No, it’s just hanging out in port, doing what it normally does. If things were really as bad as we’re being led to believe, Newsom could ask for it to be used. He could also call up the National Guard and have them establish field hospitals in areas of critical need, but he hasn’t done that, either.
