Just had a Squirrel Skirmish behind CasaK; about five of the little buggers chasing each other around from tree-to-tree while chittering aggressively. (I noticed that none o’ them little bastards were wearing masks, either.)

My MiL was doing very well yesterday, and stayed longer than expected, which is a blessing. We normally have a rather large group for Christmas dinner, but this year it will only be the four of us. A few others may join us later for dessert -- we’ll see. That means the prime rib I cook will be the smallest I’ve done in a while.
Mrs. Paddy’s church has been doing both online services and an in-person, outdoor service for several months now. Mine is still strictly online, but that’s a different story. Anyway, she got a call last night that one of the attendees, a 90-year old woman, tested positive for COVID, so she needs to notify those she might have come in contact with. On top of that, the son of their secretary tested positive for COVID, so we all have to wait until at least tomorrow to find out the results of the secretary’s COVID test. If she tests positive, then Mrs. Paddy needs to get tested, along with the rest of Casa du Furnijur. What fun!
There being a dearth of movies I feel inclined to watch on Nextflix or Prime, Mrs Sven and I watched the 1971 film Harold and Maude last night. I can remember seeing it when it first came out in Chicago with my cousin and brother -- we must have been back in Chicago for one funeral or another, but which one I don’t recall -- and I’ve probably seen it again once or twice over the last 50 years.
Both Bud Cort and Ruth Gordon are fabulous in the title roles and the Cat Stevens’ soundtrack is good as well; this was well before Stevens went full on Muslim. Worth watching if you’ve never seen it, or rewatching if it’s been a while.

Well I got something done today -- finished Christmas cards and the year end $ donations. Now all I have to do is get them in the mail -- tell you what, my cursive has gone to hell. I need to sit down and write more by hand on a regular basis.
Going in for a stress test for my new heart doctor tomorrow. Already had my last coffee until after the test. (Loud voiceless bilateral fricative!!)
Stress? Just got preliminary approval on a refinance of the home. We did this two years ago to pay off the last $30,000.00 of medical bills from 2016, but the higher interest rate with the added loan pushed our payment up about $300. a month and that was our extra. With interest rates being low I checked with my loan officer and I will be paying just over half the interest, saving about $350. a month. Worth it but I didn’t need this now. At least it went smoothly and should go through.
I have been rebuilding my computers too. My last build from 2012/13 has been getting unstable and slow. The computer before that was a Gateway I bought in 2011 and upgraded. I decided to upgrade that and try it as the main PC. The case it came in was confining so I transferred it to the case my XP box had been in and upgraded a few things. It has been working well so I will take the other one apart. I was so impressed with the refurbished XP computer I bought I decided to try a similar Lenovo with i3 CPU and Win 10 Pro for about $100.00 as a backup. It is a great computer for the money. Everything works well. It did seem slow at first but I have put SSDs in all my computers for about ten years so I cloned the drive to an extra SSD I had and it works great now, much faster to load and use. I added a 3TB drive for storage and an expansion card for USB 3. I am very impressed with the thing. I have been reconnecting everything to set it up with speakers and a monitor. Elena laughs at me for having four desktop PCs but if I disassemble the one I will be back to just three. I don’t hear her commenting about the time I spend on the computer anymore, as she is watching videos on her phone all the time now. It is funny as she almost never cared about the internet before other than to ask me to look up something. The smart phones were a good investment.
