Saturday, in the park, I think it was the 4th of July.
Good morning, GN!
Dv8: I recently discovered Tim Pool, I think during the Chauvin trial. He’s quite good.
Our nextdoor neighbors are having a garage sale this morning -- they are clearing out their house in preparation to moving to Arkansas next month. Good, conservative, Trump-loving people and they’ve been there almost 20 years. Going to miss them and worried, this being SoCal and all, as to what will move in once their house sells.
Looking at buying a new used truck today. Do I really need it? No, I can get by with my ’05 Tacoma, but looking ahead it might make sense. Have to see what the final $ look like and if Mrs Sven is OK with it.
I’ve been looking for a newer vehicle as well…prices ’round here are high right now and the selection is poor.
My understanding is that this is due to a shortage of some chip which is commonly used in vehicles these days, leading to a shortage of new vehicles and a commensurate reduction in trade-ins / private sales of pre-owned.

Maaaaan…glad it’s teh weekend. So I have some time to get caught-up on JimCo stuff I didn’t have time to do during the week…and perhaps chill a bit, too.
I profoundly detest venal, greedy, wretchedly ungrateful and utterly unreasonable HOAs. And the folks who run them.
I find it interesting that, to my knowledge, exactly none of the hundreds of home inspections which have presumably been performed at Scumbag Acres HOA over more than 40 years caught the construction defect we inadvertently discovered.
Yet somehow, JimCo ought to have scried, cast entrails, divined or -- in some other woo-woo manner -- learned of their existence.

I think HOAs are a microcosm of what is wrong with government. Especially unchecked mob rule democracy. People always do bad things. Especially when you get enough of them together with some power. It’s literally not the people but the institution that corrupts. This is why our system was is the envy of the world. We had have enough checks on power to keep our lives fairly free.

Good morning, Sven, and Fatwa!
Sven -- good luck on your used car search. From what I hear, prices are high due to higher demand. Hope you get some decent neighbors.
Fatwa -- I hope you’ve brought up the point about inspections to the HOA, though I doubt it will matter to people trying that hard to avoid responsibility.
I see California has an unofficial vaccine passport. They’ve rolled out an app that allows you to carry your vaccine credentials on your phone, rather than carrying the physical card. Of course the Newsom admin refuses to address the question of whether or not it’s a vaccine passport.
Made a whole package of Bacon this morning. Filtered and saved the grease and mixed with some rendered and filtered pan drippings. Had a few tiny Bacon Sandwiches with mayo. on mini Croissants. Saved the rest of the Bacon for Plaguie.
Did some laundry. Still trying to make myself go out and see people.
Well no new truck for me -- we dickered with them for a couple of hours, but couldn’t get them down to a price that was right for us. We would have taken their last offer if it was something I really needed right now, but this was more of a nice to have than a must have. Short term, I have to pump some dollars into my 2005 and pick up new tires for it. I’m good with that.
I’m stumped. An old friend that I haven’t seen in maybe 10 years called me the other day to invite me to his wedding Thursday -- he and his wife have been married over 25 years, but not in the Church, which finally got around to granting an annulment on his first marriage. I don’t think we went to their first wedding and now I’m trying to figure out what gift I should get them.

Not at all succeeding yet.
Not being snarky, but perhaps just call someone on the phone and have a conversation?
