Hope that your face-to-face discussions with cow-workers lead to some positive changes re your job.

Hope the lower margins and slowed expansion at Teh Bestest Place Evar don’t have any negative impact on you. (Sort of surprising it took two years of Covid Mania for them to “get there”.)

For the last five years or so, TBPE has been opening a new brick and mortar retail store every 3-4 days. Since I started there almost nine years ago, they’ve added close to 900 new stores bringing their total number of retail outlets to about 1300.
For all the carp I toss at this company, if you look just at growth what they’ve done is nothing short of amazing. Added to that is that their product quality has gotten considerably better over the last five years and they kick out 1-2 new products every single day.
This is a privately held company, family owned, that has been around for almost 50 years. Up until 11-12 years ago it was rather modest in terms of sales and the quality of the products was a standing joke. Then the son forced out the father, took over, and off it went.
I expect that going forward they will place more emphasis on online sales and less on stores. Hiring will slow and layoffs are not out of the question -- not this year, but possibly next year.
Happy Friday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!
Don’t be an April Fool! You can’t compete with Joe!
Fatwa -- I don’t think any positive changes re: my work will come out of my discussions, yesterday, but I did short-circuit the communication lag that can occur with email. Especially from those individuals who send out URGENT! EMAILS! that NEED! IMMEDIATE! ATTENTION! while not including any relevant details.
Sven -- let’s hope you survive the inevitable layoffs. How long do you think you need to last before you can comfortably retire?
Good morning, Paddy. “Comfortably” is that nebulous impossible to define parameter, isn’t it? How much longer will we live and how much money do we need to manage those years. I’ll be 63 in a few weeks; Mrs Sven is a couple of years older. I’d like to work at least two more years to get a paycheck and benefits, but I’d like to work beyond that doing something I like that also brings in some minimal income.
TBPE has never had a layoff and in all their history, they’ve closed only one store due to poor sales. It’s an amazing track record, but they do their research and they’ve been lucky with relative economic stability over the last 15 years. Now with covid, supply chain disruptions, inflation, tariffs, war, and relations with China it seems the world has caught up to them. Hardly unique -- it’s a big boat holding many corporations that are seeing trouble.
I expect a growth slowdown with a new focus on internal efficiencies and waste. That could be a good thing for me, but I doubt, based on past experience, that it will be done right. We shall see.
Well…. I can’t compete with the quality of the stories all y’all have been telling in the last couple of days..
At least not in quality. Possibly in length though.
Last night’s shift was literally 16 hours. Owing to the fact that the mail machine has been shredding papers lately.
Actually, About halfway through the mail, I decided to take a closer look at the machine.
I did notice that one of the suction cups that pulls the papers down has a notch or divot in it making it not functional as a suction cup. That is probably what made the machine fail so much the last several times.
It does have trouble tracking labels, but it never used to shred the papers.
After I got done with the big route…
(Harper went with me, by the way, so that was very nice!)
…my boss was able to locate some more suction cups for me to replace the ailing ones. So on Monday, it should go more smoothly, I hope. I’m pretty sure, it will, barring another further disaster, that is.
I’m very amused that the Will Smith slap is being covered like it is the WORSE THING EVER to have been seen or endured by the American people. It’s amusing, but not surprising, the values that these elites have and what they consider offensive behavior.
No foolin’…it’s Friday!!1!

It’s almost Shakespearean -- for the want of a suction cup…
So now, I’ve been awake for over 24 hours, but I’m so hyped up that I can’t settle down. I did fall asleep after “dinner.”
I got a few things at the store on my way home, and picked up dinner so we didn’t have to cook.
now, I’m just trying to settle down
all in all, I’m very proud of myself for getting through the whole thing.
Sheesh. Get some sleep, Dv8.

Well….
I guess it’s nitey nite for me.
